The uni prohibits smoking in several areas for various reasons, and so does the hospital nearby. There are several signs that state "NO SMOKING ON ANY PART OF THE PROPERTY, INCLUDING BUS SHELTERS" and yet, what do I see? People smoking everywhere but the areas they're meant to smoke in. There's a line people...

Work on the other hand, they have a designated area for a smoko, but they've set it so that your breaks are your smokos.

I'm pretty seriously allergic to tobacco in any form. Combine that with a history of asthma, and I really dislike people smoking nearby. Unfortunately, there's not really any way to force people to be considerate.

But vengeance now, vengeance is a distinct possibility. I happen to own a smallish (think large lip balm) container of skunk spray. To most people, this stuff is beyond foul. Typical reactions include nausea, the odd bout of vomiting, eye and nose irritation, dizziness, sore throat. And that's all on top of the absolutely foul stench.

I am rather unusual, in that the stuff simply does not bother me, unless I get it in my eyes. I actually enjoy it more than the smell of burning tobacco. Yes, I'm a freak of nature (I like MREs too). My reactions to tobacco smoke resemble those of most folks reactions to skunk spray. I figure it's only fair.

I love the smell of skunk. No, I can't explain it. But, the more I notice my sense of smell developing, the more the scents that usually disgust people make me go, "Hey... now there's a scent to go rolling in..."
No, seriously, the family, when we drive by a skunk, will all grimace, me? I just take a deep whiff and go, "Mmm."

          can't stand body excretion smells though...unless it's man-musk...i'm weird!

I've seen people do that in front of hospitals, literally standing 5 feet from the door when the signs all state there is no smoking on hospital property.
I understand it is an addiction, but at the hospital???? Really? Someone could have a serious reaction to the smoke!! jeez. Talk about selfish.

I actually quite enjoy the natural scent of unwashed armpits after a few days ripening

well, there's other factors to consider too: is it a fresh healthy perspiration or a stagnant been-there-for-days one? do they eat healthy or are they disgusting? is it overpowering or just a hint?

Quick fact: women tend to choose mates unconsciously by scent...mammals do the same thing to avoid mating with relatives or completely different species....same idea, of genetic compatibility making the scent more appealing...

Well... I like the smell my armpits give off after a few days going unwashed, and I tend to sweat... so... been-there-for-days? Not sure about that second question, and usually, it's just a hint, but it can be overpowering every so often.

Musks can smell really nice. *shrug*

As for smokers who can't figure out how to not smoke in desingated no-smoking areas, I used to be in a rennie guild that did, among other things, black powder demos.

I know we aren't the only guild around that would hit people with portable fire extinguishers for smoking anywhere near the open powder.

At the base, they have those no smoking signs around the NEX.

I'm pretty sure people think they mean "Designated Smoking Area", because, despite having a very lovely gazebo under which they are allowed the smoke, they stand right under the signs.
yeah but a lot of people in the military also forget the base rules on smoking... the ones they teach at boot camp at least.

In uniform - you can only smoke in an official smoking area.
In civilian clothes - you can smoke anywhere outside, unless it's designated as "non smoking"... but you're not suppose to be walking with the smoke.

they don't enforce it either tho.

I'm a smoker, but come on, people! It's not that hard! People who don't smoke rightly see it as a gross, smelly habit, and don't want to reek of our smoke, have to breathe it, see our nasty butts on the sidewalk. I wish common sense was more common.

In the winter we catch people smoking in the area between the inner and outer set of doors.

Employee: Sir/Ma'am you can not smoke in here. Please smoke outside away from the doors.
Smoker: But it's cold outside and warm in here.
Employee: Exactly. You are inside, now please go outside.

                            They usually grumble then leave.
