I trudged out to one of the quasi-local's casinos today (hint it was on MTV real world a few years back) because they had some promotions I wanted to exploit ($10 food credit for my birthday month, free ice cream cone, free beer at the lounge).
I ended up ordering $13 worth of food and drink at the coffee shop (so $3 out of my pocket) and got to witness 2 sucky incidents and piss one offender off
I was digging into my food when an asshole sat down at the counter near me. When offered the menu he threw it back at the server and declares "I want the sirloin steak with a salad in place of the baked potato", the serve cheerfully replies "that's no problem, we can do that for a $1.20 up-charge" douchebag begins ranting "I come here all the time and I've never had to pay extra to switch the potato for a salad". The server points out that this has always been their policy and if this has been done for him before it was a mistake and shouldn't have been done. SC gets mad and demands that the waitress gets a manager ASAP. Manager comes by 30 seconds later and explains the food cost of a potato (we have huge bags of them in back) versus the salad (food costs are high due to price spikes on cucumbers and tomatoes at the moment). SC goes on and one about "customer service" and how for him a "regular" customer they should focus on making him happy and not food cost. He finally understands the manager won't budge and agrees to the up-charge but explains it "WILL be coming out of the tip". He also asked if he could have the potato (which he made a big stick about saying he can't eat for dietary reasons) as well as the salad since he was playing for the salad. Management told him the salad would be $3.99 if he wanted it and the potato since it wouldn't be a substitute it would be an addition.
When I'm done with my meal, I tip $10 (on $13) and loudly explain to the server (who I'm staying to make sure she scoops the tip and not SC) that "this is to makeup for the dick-head that promised to short your tip because he doesn't like the policy you have no control over". SC looked like he was gonna shit his pants I guess he thought me nodding while the manager was speaking meant I was agreeing with his dumb-ass.
Karma works, I later won $40
