Props to lupo for having a smooth transaction!

People who have similar situations here (we don't do foodstamps, rather my work has two options: you can have an account to a certain limit, which does not include booze or cigarettes or you can have cards that work like gift cards, but don't allow booze or cigarettes) usually things will go normal as we treat those with the "need cards" the same way as those who have normal gift cards. It's when they don't know the balance of said card and get sucky about it that it gets irritating. (i.e. card is for the value of $100, person claims that the card is full, when really it has maybe $30 or so on it).

And Starbucks for foodstamps? *shrug* Why should people do the sensible thing and buy their own coffee and whipped cream and caramel sauce and chocolate syrup to make their own at home and enjoy it because it's cheaper and they can make more whenever they want when they can just pay twice the price for one drink?
Or, hell, get some coffee other than Charbuck$, and have something more like real coffee than liquid charcoal.

Lupo-far as I know, you can. At least, at my Aid of Rite you can, but that's not too helpful, you're halfway across the country. I'm assuming that if you're on assistance, you can't afford an espresso maker.

And God forbid you "tell them how to raise their little angels" and/or berate somebody else for not being responsible for their own child(ren)!
you know... I can understand people being upset if it's not constructive criticism (if you just tell them they are being bad parents or whatever)... but I know my mother loved getting constructive criticism... she viewed it as learning from someone else's pain. Good example (since we're talking about grocery stores) of one that I gave a woman who was actually grateful for it (like my mother would have been). Saw a woman pushing her cart with a kid sitting underneath the cart and went over and told her "ma'am, please don't take offense, but I should point out how dangerous that is... I used to do the same thing until one day my mother had to swerve to avoid another cart, I lost my balance and my finger went under the wheel... I still have a scar from it *shows scar on finger*. I'd hate to see your or any kid hurt like that". Shock of shock, she was actually grateful that there was someone who wasn't just coming up saying you're a bad parent, but saying, look I've done this, I've hurt myself doing this, and I'm trying to give warning.

Starfucks for food stamps? Are you effing kidding me?

I have no problem with those who are on food stamps. But, I've heard too many stories of people trying to use them for things like Starfucks or other crap like that.

When I was in college, I always hated the first of the month. I was living with my grandmother then--going to school, but living outside of a small town. Anyway, when the first of the month came around...most people made it a point to be somewhere else. Why? Well, when relief day came, all across the county every eligible citizen would venture forth from their dwelling...and flood the town. Seriously--if you really needed a gallon of milk, tough crap. Not only would you have to wait in line for a half-hour in some cases, but you'd have to park in the damn trees!

$59 bucks... save the overpriced fees for upchux coffee drinks for a month and you can buy your own expresso machine.

They are just way too lazy to actually MAKE a coffee drink at home, or most fast food garbage. It is the instant gratification programming of today's society.

Personally? There is NOTHING better than a fresh batch of homemade cinnamon rolls and a freshly brewed cup of coffee made at home, and enjoyed with a friend while hanging out. MrDrone and I will just hang out and listen to music on the back deck, watching the critters [chickens are better than reality TV sometimes] and have a koffeklatsch with fresh cinnamon rolls and coffee. Nothing better on a lazy sunday morning

Finally, I get to the checkout!!
Only to be stuck behind three ladies who want to run 5 different transactions on their Lone Star cards (Foodstamp/EBT cards here in Texas). It's all well and good, except their throwing a hissy fit over the fact they can't buy their clearance clothing and shoes and booze with said card, because they've always been able to before!!

Manager had to be called over. Took several tries to get it through their heads why it wasn't allowed, and they swore up and down they'd take it to corporate.

                  good luck with that.
Food stamp customers are something else. I once had a customer who insisted that she should be able to buy her douche with her EBT card because it was made of vinegar, and vinegar was food.

I just cleared out my basil to make nummy bruschetta. Now I have to find something to do with the massive amount of oregano I have. I'm thinking some homemade spaghetti sauce.

If you're not going to eat it, it's not food.

Due to financial challenges, I recently this year had to go on EBT. I don't like having to do it, but it's helping us make ends meet for the time being. I fully understand that they are for FOOD only (seriously how hard is this to comprehend) and alcohol or anything of the sort.

I am working a part time job right now doing 32 hours a week, so while I may be getting assistance, I'm not "sucking off the system".

On another note, it really pisses me off how parents expect other people to take responsibility for THEIR kids, as if raising a child was some kind of group activity.

Thinking of applying for food stamps since my job hours are cut and I'm barely making rent...)
Good luck with that. The one time I really needed help, I applied--and was told I would have to drop out of school AND get pregnant. AND that I was not working enough hours.

At the time, I was in school full time (summer session) taking Calculus II and Chemistry II, and working 20 hours a week as a math/accounting tutor with the college.

I told them that dropping out of school and/or getting pregnant was not an option, and that I was already working the maximum hours the school would let me, and I had already tried to find another job that would be flexible around everything else.

They told me basically, "Too bad, so sad."

I really do hope Texas policy has changed since 1984!!
