  • K-Mart: The Final Frontier..

No, theres not truly a reason for the Star Trek reference..i just liked the way it sounds!!

Anywho, I went to Kmart today with DH and my 3yr old daughter. We're in the kids clothes section, next to the layaway when 2 "ladies" walk into the layaway area.

Not seeing anyone in the first 3.7 seconds they walk in, they proceed to ring the little bell on the desk. And they ring it. And they ring it. And they ring it. And they ring it. And they ring it. And they ring it.

It gets better ... about 5 seconds after they stop ringing, they start shouting...into the aisles..."HEYYYY. HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY..WE'RE IN LAYWAY"

Luckily at this time, i was about done in the kids clothes section and made my way over to housewares, a few minutes later, as im heading towards the Kleenex (i have a cold ) The "ladies" cross my path...only theyre not really crossing, theyre just kinda standing in one spot blocking an intersection from all 4 ways somehow (luckily i had no cart, so I could easily manuver around!) and one "lady" is screaming into her cell phone..."Hey...wheres my child support! I need it...and you said you were going to take the baby to live with you and blah blah" Just LOUD as all hell. I glance at hubbs, he chuckles and we continue on.

Somewhere near electronics, im looking at candles and I hear the "Voices"..I look at my husband and we run... lol.

ETA: When we first walked in KMart, we came across a girl wearing real assless chaps...I mean, she had jeans on underneath...but still. My city girl self has never actually seen those kind of chaps in real life..lol.

I hate the people that ring the bell like crazy and yell. Worse is if they snap at me like some dog. You just gave me a good idea for assless chaps.

At my hotel we have a bell on the counter. The above situation happens enough times that it's easily my #1 pet peeve. One time I was coming out of our kitchen when I saw 2 SC's walk right up to the counter and ring the bell. I politely asked "How can I help you?" which kinda startled them.

Ringing a bell in Kmart and actually expecting service is a new level of naive, innit?

            Heheheheh... that's rich.

I am having layaway nightmares just reading this! I used to work in layaway at Kmart, years ago and let me tell you it was hell!

The crap people tried to put in layaway was a joke (shampoo, cereal, tires, car batteries) and most of the customers were pretty darn rude. (It was while working in the Layaway department that I decided that I couldn't do retail anymore, so I jumped in to the customer service field, better hours, same crappy people!)

Christmas was awful and it started October 1st and woe to the person working who had to tell a customer that their layaway was returned to stock b/c they paid the min on October 1st and it was now Dec 24th. Oh and never mind the phone calls and reminder cards sent to the customer. Urg.

Then there were the employees who didn't care about actually puting the items where they were labeled to go up in the loft. Sucky employees + sucky customers - not my fault = get me the heck out of there!

We've got the opposite problem with our bell in the church office - 99% of the time (this being when someone comes in and I'm not at my desk), the person won't ring it and just stands there. This is especially annoying because with the way the offices are laid out, you can't see (and sometimes don't hear) someone entering unless you're in the area near my desk.

I tend to just stand there, silently, waiting, waiting, waiting, because I'm 6'5", if you don't see me standing there, something's wrong.

Oh, they not only tried, but succeeded in putting those kinds of things on layaway at the K-Mart I worked at in Deming. Particularly cleaning supplies, paper towels, and toilet paper. They were the joke of the district. Although many of us wondered if these people knew something we didn't....

I'm having K-Mart nightmares, as some of the worst SC's I encountered were when I worked there during the Christmas season several years ago. I'm just glad I never worked in layaway as that's where the worst customers were at, including some SC being escorted out of the store after getting into a major argument with the store manager.

I have to apologize for my husband who loves to ring the little bell, even if the clerk is right there. He is like a little kid when it comes to the little bells. He only rings it once though or I would have to kill him.

I can't stand the trashy people in stores who think everyone else in the store wants to hear about their Jerry Springer lives and will scream all the details out for everyone to hear. I always have a strong urge to grab duct tape and tape their whole head up with it.

which is funny... my biggest pet peeve is the people who DON'T ring the bell when I'm in the back office or the kitchen... it is there for a reason people... use it.
