  • Clearance Sale Disaster

I can probably forgive the store in question, because it was the first time they did the sale, but this was absolutely terrible. Half-Price books held a gigantic sale at the state fair grandstand, with all seven locations contributing clearance items. This is the kind of thing that would have been absolutely incredible, if only they had done it right. The first problem lay with how the books were sorted, namely that for the most part, they weren't. They had a few sections of CDs, DVDs VHS tapes and games, but the books were sorted by paperback or hardcover. Not alphabetically, not by genre, not by topic, not by fiction or non-fiction, but simply by cover type. This made finding what you wanted nearly impossible. The bigger problem came when it was time to check out. They had, probably a tenth of the registers they needed, meaning that the line was about 3 times the length of the grandstand, and would have taken at least 2 hours to get through. When we realized the length of the line, we left without getting a thing, and instead went to a regular store. I sincerely hope that this becomes a yearly event, and they learned from the mistakes of this year's debacle.
