So long as it's not a FishMalk.

In all seriousness, there have been several (occasionally publicized, but primarily anecdotal) incidents where Twilight fans and Twilight non-fans have put one another into the hospital, and, while I'm normally apathetic towards various crazes, I cannot for the life of me tolerate Twilight.

Sure, it gets people to read, but when the main character is a blatant Author Avatar MarySue, it kinda makes me shudder in distaste, and ask if it would be a service to humanity if every one of those books were rounded up and treated to a proper effect of a Vampire in Sunlight.

Sorry if this veers into Fratching Territory. But, well, If I get yelled at or assaulted because I choose Not to (or choose to) read/watch something, well, it gets me irritable, to say the least.

Dammit vampires are not supposed to sparkle! It is an abomination to God and mankind!

      hear hear!

The only way to see a sparkly vampire would be to dump glitter on him/her and then you wouldn't live to see it........

ETA: last time I went into my local comic shop(gothed out a bit) I was saddened by the clerk's response-enough to never return.....

The horrible response as I was perusing the zombie comics and about to ask if they had a certain adult comic dealing with two woodland faeries with a peculiar fetish....(what don't look at me like that-I'm an adult)

"Oh my God-there's a girl in the shop!"
Which caused everyone to stare at me-I did ask if they carried the comic I was looking for...they hadn't heard of it

You forgot the obvious anti-feminist vibes.

Seriously, that main heroine ho-bag of a character is the biggest waste of space I've ever had the displeasure of reading. You know what makes up a large chunk of my reading? Romance novels (or as my hubby likes to call them "Porn for the proper lady") and I've never complained about some of those 2 dimensional characters. I think it's cause at least those books promote self worth and women standing up for themselves (though sometimes my brain cries at the 'men are scum' vibes).

Those books that even Satan wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole? You have a girl pretty much in a bad relationship, but look how gorgeous the guy is and how lovely it is that she goes suicidal because HE BROKE UP WITH HER!

Way to kill women's rights and promote suicide rates there you moronic ho-bag of an author!

God this makes me want to finish my book all the faster. My female lead might not be a butt kicking babe at first but by the end you bet your arse she'll be able to stand on her own two feet without some super hot guy needing to make her life worth something.

        I shall stop ranting now...

Best malkav ever (at least IMO) was our crazy cat lady. She was literally crazy, (she didnt actually own any cats) she just hallucinated that she did. And as with Malkav's madness every now and then the people she was with would hear a cat meowing, or the occasional hiss of cats fighting

Wow! I haven't read those in forever. First manga I was ever exposed to. Wonder if that's a bad thing?

                THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

I was beginning to think that I was the only one who noticed that the little twit has serious self-esteem issues and falls blindly into the "He's broken, so I must fix him" cliche. The only reason I watched that movie twice was first to screen it for my 10 year old daughter, then the second time to critique it with her so she won't wind up sixteen years old and in a f**ked up relationship like that with a guy who could KILL HER!

If I never hear about that simpering little c*nt character again it will be too soon.

And Encyclopedia Drammatica makes me just about fall off my chair again.

                    Quoth Encyclopedia Drammatica
Twilight, along with its cash-cow sequels New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn is a four novel long, vampire romance series that appeals to the tiny minds and tingling ginies of 16 year old girls. Chock-full of one-dimensional characters and completely devoid of originality, the series is comparable to reading the scribblings and drool stains of an epileptic downie coloring while a strobe light is being shone in it's face. Avoid reading it at all costs.

                    *Mr. Snippy was here*

If you want to know just how horrible Twilight is, it's on par with Tara Gilesbie's masterpiece My Immortal, only with spell check and a sad attempt at trying to disguise unoriginal ideas.

Yup, that series is the one I own.

Back on track, it's nearly November, and time for NaNoWriMo, and I imagine that the anti-Twilight threads will be just about as popular and vehement as the anti-Eragon (it's the word 'dragon' with one letter changed? how brilliant [/sarcasm]) threads were last year.

Said comic wouldn't have made a major costume showing in Otakon 2000 (god I'm dateing myself) where almost every 14 year old seemed to have talked their parents into letting them wear as little clothing as possible with wings was it? If so I think I actully know what your talking about after only reading/being subjected to 2 of the comics. Strange what stays in ones mind after several years.

The only time Vampires should sparkle is in the eyes of the bloodlusted mob who've just set them afire.

As soon as the "Do you like Twilight" question was asked, I would have legged it, rapidly.

I like Vampire Myths, the older the better. Especially Russian ones and Eastern European Upirs. Though I detest Bram Stoker for essentially tacking on his character to a historical figure. (If anyone really thinks that Dracula is NOT based a lot upon Vlad Dracula Tepes III, there must be something in their water)

Speaking about Stoker's Dracula, there is going to be a sequel to the story. It's written by Dacre Stoker, the great-grandnephew of Bram. Not sure if I'll buy it or not. The original was too flowery for my taste (hate the "romantic genre" - can't read stoker, shelley, or poe short stories, however the poetry that came out of that time period - I loooove it!)

                              Ahem ...

                              Yes, vampires don't sparkle.

And the goth chick would hate me even more because I'd argue with her and win the argument against basically anything she could throw at me.

And for the record ... The assistant manager I loved to work with? As goth as goth could be. He's awesome. I love him. Everyone thinks he's awesome.

She's just a moron and gives goths a bad name.

Now, I'm going off to write my own vampire fiction. Maybe it'll be a best seller too.

You should try Fred Saberhagens The Dracula Tape. He has written a whole series, mixing Vlad Tepes life with modern vampire stories. In my opinion the latter stories, except perhaps The Holmes-Dracula Files, are not nearly as good as the first
