Halloween suckage

A mall near me hosts a Halloween party where kids can get dressed up and go to the different merchants to get candy. I think it's a terrific idea, especially since today has been rainy and cold. What pisses me off is the adults who get dressed up and get candy right alongside the kids. Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with adults getting into the Halloween spirit. But to see disappointed kids not get any candy because everybody and their Mom took it all isn't fair.

I hate that too! I give adults 1 piece (kids get 3) unless they are holding the bag for a kid that it too little or is too tired.

Bah! I do the opposite, I go around the mall and give candy away.

Our mall did that. Sadly, a lot of our business comes from sampling, so when people line up to get candy from the Disney store next door and line up ACROSS our storefront blocking our entrance, we're none too happy :/ Especially as it wasn't for a short amount of time.

they need to utilize the simple solution.
"I'm sorry. This candy is for CHILDREN. If you want candy, please check out the candy shop over there, they have some great candy for sale."

That's what the malls in our area does. Even the jerks have trouble arguing when they are surrounded by a lot of parents saying basically ' hey Jerk, stop trying to steal the kid's candy!'

Or the merchant can tell the adult, "you spend $100, you get candy."

We used to give out pencils or other Halloween themed stuff, but not candy. Also, they did it in the kids' department so I never had to deal with it. Luckily I've never worked in a mall store for Halloween. People don't really bother trick-or-treating at a free-standing store.

My personal rule is that no one over 12 gets candy.
If it's a good enough rule for kid's menus it's good enough for me too.

I'll give candy out to anyone that dresses up and knocks on our door. Before we moved, we'd had to tell the lazy teens and tweenies that if they're in street clothes (I don't care what famous person you're supposed to be, you're still in normal street clothes) they get nothing.

Nobody knocks on our door on Halloween; none of the kids Trick or Treat at my apartment complex.

Actually, the last time I went out for candy was just about 10 years ago, and I was nearly 30. Of course, me and my friends would go to houses, and it would be at 9pm, so it's not like we were taking candy that kids would be getting.

Adults can dress up and go to the bar or house parties. Trick or treating is for kids. Period.

At the mall here, kids can go from store to store to get treats.

I generally do the candy-dispersal at our house, and I usually try to find some kind of outfit that will spook the trick-or-treaters. I generally do hand out candy to anyone that comes up and says trick-or-treat, though I have to admit, the teens/tweens who come up without an apparent costume are getting a little irritating.

For two years recently, I dressed up in one of those black robes with the face-blanking screen, wearing all black. The weather was cooperative enough both years that I could stand on our front step, stock still, with the candy basket in front of me. I scared quite a few people by just standing there and not moving... until they walked up, when I'd pick up the basket. (The second year was creepier, since it was JUST cold enough you could see your breath... so vapor was coming from the "empty" hood.)

This year I simply went with a black t-shirt and jeans, but wore a Frightmare mask that I got at a CHIKARA show. I wore it to work, too. Spooked quite a few people, and got some genuine screams from one group of tween girls that came to our door.

When I was at the watch store, I'd request to open on Halloween. I liked seeing the kids dressed up (and then I got the night off)

Best kid: This gal came in in Hogwarts cape, glasses, and pigtails. I do like Harry Potter, but I couldn't quote guess who she was. In a whiney bad British accent, she told me, "I wouldn't expect you to know who I am.....I am Moaning Myrtle." Got the costume and attitude down. SHe got extra candy

I hated the older teens/adults who didn't even wear a costume....I think we gave 'em candy and told 'em to piss off.

Oh! and when I worked at the chocolate store, people expected us to give away more then just the normal samples/////um no.

We love Halloween. When the kids are old enough to go out on their own we plan to stay home. Eventually, we want to have the kind of yarn that people trek across town to ToT at. :-)

But my husband really goes all out on making costumes. This year the older son was a gonk droid (complete with lights, fan, sound effects, and "wear & tear) and the younger was a Toyota Yaris. Hey, he asked for it, and it meant we could build it around the wagon.

There was an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where obvious teenagers in normal clothes ask for candy. When Larry basically says no since their too old, and not wearing costumes, they respond by spray painting BALD ASSHOLE and TP his house.

He managed to track one of them down by accident, and tried to talk to her parents, which he had offended by humming a song earlier in the episode. (The girl of course denied TP his house). Natuarlly at the screaming match at the end as he is driving away, I love how she yells "Maybe next time you'll give me candy ya bald asshole!"
