I pushed my cart to the checkout. At this store, the checker actually has two belts and can check out a second person while the first person finishes bagging, paying, etc. Very convenient.
One woman has checked out, and is bagging - there is NOTHING on the belt. In front of me is another woman, and in front of her is an unattended cart with a few items. I ask the woman if anyone's in line.
She says "He said he'd be right back." The belt is empty: the checker, the woman in front of me and myself are twiddling our thumbs. He COULD be checking her out, but some nimrod has left us all waiting. I say "Let's move this basket and get on with it". She replies, hesitantly, "He said he'd be right back." I push his cart aside and she smiles slightly and starts unloading hers.
She is CHECKED OUT AND PAYING, I am almost finished loading my stuff onto the belt. At this point Nimrod appears carrying one item. He stands behind me and mumbles "Sorry it took so long. My cart was here first, but you go ahead."
Keep in mind one person has already completed her transaction and mine is under way - that's how long he's been gone.
If you knew me, you would know it took EVERY bit of restraint I have to avoid turning to him and letting him have it for his entitled, passive-aggressive bullshit. Looking back I'm glad I kept my mouth shut, but I so wanted the satisfaction of telling him off. He evidently thinks that when he doesn't have his shit together, everyone ELSE should pay in order to shorten his own delay.
What an ass.
Should I have spoken up as I wanted, or was discretion the better part of valor?
