  • Can't believe she didn't go to jail

While I've been away, I've seen many nut jobs, but I'm going to start with the biggest.

I was at a bulk store shopping a while back. You know the kind, hard cement floors, great big carts, you get the idea. Anyway, I was in line waiting to pay for whatever mega box of crap I was purchasing and a checkout or 2 over I see a kid, maybe 3 standing up in the cart and jumping. This goes on for while, then, out of the blue the "mother" yanks the cart and the kid falls smack out of the cart and onto the floor. The "mother" then laughs and says, "That's what happens when you stand up in the cart. Quit crying."

Now, not that if she HAD warned the child this makes this ok, but the whole time she didn't once tell the child to sit down. She didn't make an effort to get him out of the cart, she didn't even look at him.

So the kid is screaming, a manager comes running, and all the mother can say is "he fell out." I grabbed the manager, told him what I saw and asked him to call the police. The paramedics come, take the kid who has a serious goose egg, and the police come. They take my name, and leave the office with what looked like a video tape. When I left, the boy had been taken to the hospital to make sure he was ok, and the mother was being escorted out by the police.

Later, I looked the mother's name up and found out she never did jail time. She plead to something like child endangerment and completed a parenting class. I assume, since she wasn't charged with murder or manslaughter that the kid was fine. Makes me sick to think if that is how the mother behaves in public what she does at home.

Sickening. I would say unbelievable, but it isn't, sadly.

        Fixed it for you.

Oh and I know I'm not the only one who says she done this on purpose. Her ass should have been thrown in jail.

You did the right thing by calling the cops! And if she pled to child endangerment, then CPS is involved. She may still have her kids, but they will be watching her from now on.

I agree: she should have done jail time.

            Trish,

You'll never know the whole story, but you definitely did the right thing. Good for you for speaking up. How many other people saw this and said nothing?

Well, no one else stayed and gave a statement, that's for sure.

Kudos to you for telling the police what happened!

That's so sad, but at least she waited for the kid to get medical attention. Where I work, we can call the ambulance if we feel it's necessary, but the parents can decline treatment for their child! Still, it covers our butts if the parents try to say we never helped them...

Thank you for speaking up on the child's behalf. Too many people don't want to get involved.

Some consolation is that at least the mother is in the system, and we can hope that if anything else happens to the child that there is a record of the mother's behavior.

i hope she learns something from that class - but i wouldn't hold my breath either. but yes, having the paperwork on file will help if she does something like that again.

Absolutely, I think this might have been the wake-up call that the mother needed. You can't do that to a child.

I swear sometimes I think reincarnation is true. I share the same genes with someone who loved to do stuff like this.
