Bosslady made a trip to Office Max for their tax form kit so that she could do up some of the reports she has to do as a business owner. The form set she picked up was the OfficeMax 1099 MISC Laser Tax Form 20 Set Kit. This particular kit comes in 10, 20, 30, and 50 copy variations.
The reason this is important is due to one of the 5 different forms having to be printed in a specific ink color, so it's not something you can just print out from the IRS website. From the header for the copy viewable online at the IRS website:
As you can see, this particular form requires that it be one of their originals.
Office Max appears to have a problem at their packaging facility as the kit she picked up, while claiming to be the 20 form variant, only held 10 of each copy. So, she being the reasonable person she is, called up the store to let them know that there was a problem and to see if she could go in to get a set with all 20 copies.
She spoke to "Phillip" at Office Max who started off by stating that there should only be 10 of each copy and that the others are supposed to be printed from the included software disc. Needless to say, that is complete and utter rubbish.
Once she insisted that, no, the package stated 20 copies and she required 20 copies, he turned flat out snippy and accused her of "just wanting free stuff," and "fine, just come down and get your free stuff." Bosslady was neither amused nor impressed.
She is currently on hold with the nice customer service people at Office Max's 800 number, who are going to be mailing her the missing copies. I'll get the rest of the story out of her once she's done.

The official printed version of this IRS form is scannable, but the online version of it, printed from this website, is not. A penalty of $50 per information return may be imposed for filing forms that cannot be scanned.
