  • self sighting - and i am not repentant

cos hopefully i taught someone a gentle lesson.

logging in from a public computer, decided to check my AIM.
for the second time today i found that AIM had someone else set up to automatically log in.

great if you're on your home computer but...
    1) this is a public computer
    2) this is a military base - they are suppose to instill in these boys and girls a sense of account security.

    my self sighting...
making two public status updates on his account.

I forgot to log my account out on a public computer
Logging him out now. Someone let him know because the next person might not be so trustworthy
not as bad as what my former navy coworkers would do (re: x-rated love letters to male coworkers) but perhaps a reminder to flipping log out. or at least make sure you DON'T leave it at "remember my password".

    O_o

you'd think they'd teach these people fucking opsec. or at least stop setting the newbies up for failure

Mr. Trjgul is military, and one of his COs was telling his guys to be super careful about what they post on their Facebooks.

The hubs showed me this particular COs page. The only information that was missing were blood types, family histories, shoe sizes and dental work.

I don't think they know what OPSEC means.

I don't see how you were an SC at all. If you had done some rude or obscene on the user's status, that would have been different, but what you did was actually pretty nice.

I will acknowledge that I am a major fan of Failbook, and some of the things that have been posted as a result of someone walking away from their laptop are hysterical.

I personally believe if you leave yourself logged in to a public computer, you deserve what happens, but I won't do it to you, I'll just log you out. On the other hand, if I let you use MY computer and you leave yourself logged in, well, then you're fair game. Hence why my roommate's OKCupid account now says he's bisexual, which he has yet to notice.
Pretend there's something here that sounds insightful, but is really just some pseudo-intellectual bull.

                mmm goats. lol.

i did send a feedback on the system though cos... well it's a fucking base. they should know better than to set the computers up like this.

and no i'm not that mean. but i will do the "i forgot to log myself out" one at least. cos it'll make them skeered i hope.

When I was in college, we used to have this program called caucus. Every so often you would see a post by someone that said, "I forgot to logout". The system wouldn't log you out if you just turned off the terminal. When I was a consultant in our computer lab, I would just log these people out. other people wouldn't.

Whenever I catch a personal email account still logged in, I send a message to whatever the address is about the importance of not leaving yourself logged in.

That's one reason I use the "private browsing" option whenever I use public computers - no accidental staying-logged-in.

                        This is damned funny.

Please come back and update us as to his reaction once he finds out.

This happens at my workplace all time on the computers in the lunchroom.....mainly gmail and facebook. I'll usually do something similar to what the OP did, nothing more lol.

We have a little teenybopper turdbucket who likes to log into Facebook on the iPod Touch display at work. I know that it's the same person because the email address I find on the log in page is the same every time. They don't seem to get that total strangers now have access to their addy. I'm waiting for them to forget to log out so I can post something stupid under their name.

I can't even begin to count how often I'd log onto a computer at school and see that someone didn't log out of their student account. No big deal - just meant I could look at naughty things and not get my account suspended. Hell, one of my instructors even told us that if we wanted to look at porn at school, do it when someone doesn't log out of their student account.

I've also visited some of my regular sites at school - like DeviantArt and eBay - and found folks who had not logged off. *headdesk* Why not just check your bank balance online and forget to log off that too?
