Last year, one of the guys that I worked with moved to Texas with his boyfriend. Before they moved, we had a going away party at the local Applebees. So we are sitting at this huge table, and are all laughing and talking and having a great time. Then we hear voices behind us, which get louder and louder, eventually ending with a guy sitting behind us screaming at the manager that he was a "f@g", and leaving the restaurant, and the manager threatening to call security and chasing them out of the restaurant. We were shocked, since we had no clue what had just happened.
It was a good thing that we all eat and drink there all the time, because the manager came up and filled us in on the story.
Turns out that this man and woman come into the restaurant and sit in the bar section with their young daughter. They order drinks and get carded. Well, then another couple comes in and sits at the table next to them. They also order drinks, but don't get carded. This got table one angry. They called the manager over, and said that it was just because they were black that they were carded, and that it was stupid that table two (who were white) weren't carded. The manager tried explaining that the couple at table two were regulars, and that since they came in all the time, all the servers knew and recognized them, and hence, didn't card them. This wasn't good enough for table one, and they start screaming at the manager about how he is racist and a f@g. The manager grabs their bill and puts it on the table, and advises them to leave before mall security or the cops are called. He then leaves to let them pay their bill. I guess the guy at table one was still angry, because he threw his money at the manger...coins and all. They then get up and leave before the cops are called. The manager had to chase after them, though, because they had forgotten to grab their daughters coat...and it was cold out.
I dunno...for me personally, I enjoy being carded.
