This was on an episode of Customs (UK version of Border Security).
Basically, a guy had come from South Africa to the UK for a 4-month "holiday." He had brought along a letter claiming that he had a course to go back to. (The guy's name was Dazzling )
The letter turned out to be a fake. Basically he'd given photocopied letters (one was a recommendation from an employer, the other one was a letter confirming his course) to the check-in counter. Immigration seized his documents and discovered the ORIGINAL letter among his documents. He'd basically cut out current dates, pasted them over the ORIGINAL dates (the original dates on the two letters were May 2006 and May 2008 respectively) and then photocopied the letter and handed the photocopy to the check-in counter.
His second lie: his "male" friend was going to support him for his stay. (he'd only come over with about 40 pounds/dollars) While the Immigration person is searching through his documents, he gets a phone call from a woman claiming that she's the girlfriend of Dazzling and that she's waiting for him in arrivals. Given he'd never mentioned a girlfriend AT ALL, there were suspicions that she was helping him gain citizenship.
His excuse? That he had to change the dates because one of them was sick and the other wasn't there.
