  • For the Love of All That's Holy - Shut Up!

So, tonight I got to see Cheap Trick in concert, courtesy of KLOS and the cost of one pint of blood to the Red Cross.

The show was great but for some dumb bitch behind me with one of the most annoying voices I've had the misfortune to be subjected to in recent history that would not shut the hell up!

She gabbed during the entire show with her new best friend from two rows behind me. I didn't actually hear a lot of her for the first half because she was being overshadowed by the gaggle of tweenie girls who had no interest int he show at all and were spending the entire time yelling to each other over the music right behind me.

    >_<

What the hell is wrong with people that they go to a concert and then proceed to ignore and dis the band on stage by talking through it all? This woman's gonna get herself smacked when she sits behind someone less civil. I did tell her to shut up at one point, but I'd have had to scream at her to be heard over her grating screech. The tweenies, otoh, actually changed seats after me telling them to "be quiet."

I think we could all agree that concerts are one of those places you are almost 100% guaranteed to come across a SC.
      It makes sense.

QFT. Especially if the concerts are at open-air venues (festivals and otherwise). My parents and I were at Colorado Irish Festival to see Enter The Haggis. For almost the entire freakin' show, these three people (two girls and a guy, all three of 'em around my age) would not shut up. And the guy kept disappearing to grab more beer for the three of them. They finally stopped chattering and walking, though, during ETH's awesome cover of White Squall. I probably would have had to hurt them otherwise.

Also, same concert, there were these two teenage girls who kept walking around with about five bottles of bubble soap each, blowing bubbles at random people and talking louder than was necessary given the fact that they were walking close enough to each other as to be practically tripping over each other.

I've been to a lot of concerts. Only the ones that are so loud that I can't hear afterwards (I really need to invest in some decent earplugs lest I do further damage to my ears) don't involve dipshits who can't hold their discussions until after. >_<

Then there's the Dancing Fools. I get that sometimes, you gotta stand up and dance with the music. But when there are only about a dozen people out of thousands standing, maybe that should clue you in that this is not that time. You know, 'cause they're playing a ballad or doing the instrumental changover at the halfway mark or something. But, hey, you're generally not destroying my ability to enjoy the show. Can't say the same for the people sitting behind you, however. Actually, I feel really sorry for concert-goers who can't stand. The amount of sound a human body can block is amazing (discovered that at a Rush concert where the entire audience stood for the entire show, which made me so very glad that I wasn't short 'cause I'd have been screwed >_< ), and, really, not a single freaking person ever looks behind them to check if they're destroying someone else's experience.

There's a special hell for people who talk in the theater . . . .

When I was in college, I went with my girlfriend to an awesome comedy & awareness show done by drag queens and transgendered folks; in the row behind me these two girls wouldn't stop bitching. Couldn't hear a word.

I pulled out the bitchiest tone I could at the time (teenage girl, mind you--that's frickin' bitchy) and said "Some of us are actually interested in watching the show. Shut up or leave." They did. I was pleased; my girlfriend was impressed. The show was fabulous.

I was once at a stand-up comedy thing with Wayne Brady, Brad Sherwood, and Colin Mochrie.

Near me there was a drunk idiot shouting up at the stage, heckling them.

I have never before, or likely never will see such another verbal evisceration of that level. They proceeded to mock him directly for several minutes on end, making him the target of all of their barbs, and then the theater security escorted him from the building.

Hyndis, I would kill to have gotten to see that!

I've told this story on here before, but . . . I was in a small club in Denver oh, many years ago, where a very talented folk singer was performing. Two drunken elderly women (about the age I am now, lol) were seated at a front-row table just off center stage.

They would not shut up. Would not. Everybody in the place was glaring at them, the singer asked them at least once to please not talk during the performance, they were getting hissed at by people behind them, but they didn't care.

So, it got to the point where the singer had had enough. He abandoned his microphone, went and stood directly over their table, and sang right at them.

They finally shut up. When the singer finished that song, he looked at them for a second then went back to his microphone. The women sat there at their table with their heads down, sneaking peeks at the people around them. Meeting stares and the sort of smiles that say, "Damn right, bitch." They said not one more word for the twenty minutes the show lasted.

The singer got a standing ovation from everyone else in the club when he finished.

I've been to a lot of concerts, but not recently. Of the tickets available, I almost went with Yes, but heard that Jon wasn't with them, so switched over to Cheap Trick as I hadn't seen them in concert before, and while I'm not a huge fan (I somehow managed to never hear most of their discography >_< ), I knew I liked them. Plus, the show was at The Greek Theater, which is an absolutely lovely venue.

As an aside, Zander's voice is just as awesome as ever.
