Several years back, this kinda thing happened here. Kids dropped a rock or something like that from the overpass and hit a guy's windshield, and it ended up blinding him. I think they got caught and charged. It's been a while.
Someone was doing that from some of the bridges over I-70 here awhile back. They weren't using rocks...but cinder blocks Some of those items were as heavy as bowling balls. Sadly, even though a few people were seriously injured, nobody was ever caught or charged.

Then there's the flip side of that type of story:

<kid throwing rocks gets a crossbow bolt in the gut>

This was posted Aug. 30 on the KING 5 news website.
Sucks to be the kid, but I bet he never throws rocks at cars ever again.

My dad was once driving under some kind of bridge or overpass, and a couple of teenagers up above dropped a rock on his windshield. Luckily all it did was make a big crack, or my dad could have been killed. He called the police, but the kids had already run away. I have no idea why some kids think this kind of thing is funny.
They do that a lot to the busses around here - probably because they're too dumb to hit anything smaller and less obvious than our big, yellow busses Once someone threw a huge stone from an overpass, and it went straight through the windshield of the bus, sending the particles flying at driver and passengers. The stone then lodged itself in the plastic cover over the steering column - you know, the part of dashboard between steering wheel and windshield - literally centimeters from hitting the unsuspecting driver right in the face!

There was a kid here in Oregon that used to live near me, many many years ago now. His name was Kip Kinkel. He used to throw rocks off of overpasses with some kids that were friends with my little brother.

Some people around here call his school shooting "the Other Columbine."

So far none of the friends he threw rocks with have grown up to be spree killers....

At some the businesses here, dad has seen people load up their vehicle with stuff, then just push the cart in a random direction, stand there watching it hit someones vehicle, then just drive off without a care in the world.

And yes, dad got the plates and reported it.

People do the same to trains. That's why many passenger locomotives operating in Boston, NYC, DC, and Philly have metal screens (aka "Ghetto Grilles") over the windshields. You don't want to get hit with a rock at 80 or 125mph!

A young man was killed in NZ in 2005 when a kid threw an 8kg chunk of concrete over an overbridge and it hit him driving underneath. The boy was only 14.

Just too bad that they have to take those measures, just because some stupid kids don't realize the possible consequences to their stupid actions

ETA: not so long ago, shooting at busses with airguns and stuff like that was "the new black" - one time they shot at the bus first, and when the driver got out to investigate, they shot at him, too. Fortunately, the gun only shot tiny pellets, otherwise he could have been seriously hurt, since they actually hit him!

That's just terrible! But then, I tend to have a very extreme view of guns, which I won't post in public.

Reminds me of one of my few moments of glory.

Was out pushing carts during my breif stay as a bag boy at a grocery store and happened to spot a cart traveling down the slope of the parking lot, gradually gaining speed. From my position at the far end of the lot I could tell it was going to hit something, so I hit the afterburner and sprinted across the lot to catch it. I managed to slam into it about a second before it was about to slam into the broad side of an expensive BMW. Just about bruised myself silly, but had about 10 people clapping as I brought the cart back inside.

My one beef with that job was that after that and twice helping someone get into their locked car, I never got commended for my work, though the biggest slack-off in the company got huge praise all because the little old lady he helped walk to her car wrote a comment card abut it.
