  • Two idiots

While waiting for a taxi at the supermarket today, I saw a woman pull into the parking lot and cruise her little car right over to the ONE spot in the lot that's marked NO PARKING in nice big letters on the ground....and park right between two "NO PARKING <---->" signs. Twenty feet away from an empty parking spot.

So at home I was telling my youngest sister about this, and she told me the other day she saw a guy at the post office park RIGHT IN FRONT of the line of 'drive up & drop it in' mailboxes. This was after hours, so the parking lot is empty. And this dickhead chose to park in front of the mailboxes, get out & go inside (possibly to check a PO box or use the postage machine)...which meant nobody else could drive up and drop their mail into those boxes.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

We have 2 parking spaces right outside the main entrance to the station, which are meant for people to use when picking up & dropping off passengers. Due to the size of the font needed to write on the roadway, they are labelled simply "DROP OFF ONLY" however it's one of those "everybody knows" things that you can use it for either collecting or depositing people.

I can understand some people not wanting to park to pick up when it only says drop off, but I can't understand the people that think it's therefore much more acceptable to park on the other side of the road on the "no parking at any time" markings, or on the yellow hashed box "keep clear at all times" area that we need for people to turn around & exit the road (it's a cul-de-sac with us at the end), or - best yet - those people who just stop in the middle of the roadway & stop anyone getting anywhere!

I went up to one of these most special of the snowflakes the other day because they'd blocked me in & my shift was over, and asked if he'd use one of the properly marked bays so that I could get out. After arguing about who I was to give him this advice (while I'm stood there in full uniform) he tries to finalise the argument with "well common sense dictates that if you're trying to leave I'll have to move." I took great pleasure in replying "common sense didn't stop you parking here in the first place though, did it?"

Many years ago, someone parked illegally in front of the post office. A guy in a pickup truck with an I-beam bumper managed to scrape the side of the illegally parked car when he backed out of his legal parking spot. He did leave a note on the car that said, "If you had parked legally, I would not have hit your car."

I was at the grocery store once a few years ago and came out to my car to find some clueless person had parked their pickup-truck with attached boat IN the parking lane. At first I thought they were just sitting there, waiting, but no, the truck was off and no one was home. Naturally, this blocked me and about 10 other cars in, and there was one person standing there, throwing their arms up in anger when I got there.

Thankfully, the car in front of mine was pulling out right as I was contemplating a means of squeezing between the huge rig at the cars next to mine, so I was able to escape.

But seriously, this wasn't even close to the front of the store. I guess maybe they thought those cars were employee cars?
