  • well, that's one way to get on the professor's good side...

So, today in my AIS class the professor was self promoting his AIS auditing class next semester and all the benefits from it (which is namely that there isn't a company in existence that doesn't need the services of an AIS auditor)
And one student yelled out, "will there be other professors teaching it or will we be stuck with you again"
Yeah... that will definitely help you out when the professor assigns participation points at the end of the semester as part of his curving process.
Now, most professors like a student who is willing to challenge them, but that definitely crossed into insulting.

    That was just plain rude.

It depends on the kind of relationship that student has with the teacher. I assume since you're posting here that the tone and intent were both sucky.

I've had several teachers to whom I would have made that comment jokingly in class and have it received as a joke.

Forgive me, my Google-Fu is weak... AIS is Accounting Information Systems? So an auditor would have to not only learn the systems but communicate effectively and respectfully the findings?

Yeah, there are professors who would have found that hilarious (depending on the tone)... Professor Lindquist is NOT one of those professors. His attitude is that you should conduct yourself in class the same way you would with your clients.

Indeed, it is Accounting Information Systems (or in plain English, any system you use to do your accounting), and while with your coworkers and even maybe your managers you can have a sense of humor like that, you would never dream of pulling a line like that with a client (at least not while you are doing the audit).

Actually, you have a good point -- especially given the 'new' Credit Card security rules that came into effect in Summer 2010 (at least, in the US) -- they mainly have to do with secure storage of Customer credit card data on the local network; thus, network & password security is a HUGE part of it)...

Ya know, the accounting place where I used to work wasn't exactly up to snuff in the security department (one of the few things I did not TOUCH even as the unofficial "IT guy" - You want something that big taken care of, call our network dude who spent years getting certified on it, or pay for classes to get me certified and pay me accordingly)...And bringing the place up to code would have required time and (GASP) some money; thus, it's unlikely to have been done since then (note -- they store the "security codes" from user cards in their accounting software. Even before these rules came about, that was a big no-no)...

I wonder if the place that "enforces" these rules offers bounties for turning in non-compliant companies...>_> Why, you ask? No reason...
