I've asked the question. I guess because my doc's office has a working relationship with pharmacies and I thought they could give me a ballpark time-frame. *shrugs*

I've never had a problem with being told when they'll send the script over and to call the pharmacy. I do have a problem with a medical professional making shit up to get rid of me.
Hmm.. true. I'd also forgotten about those in clinics attached to a few major retailers who also have pharmacies. Oops. I'm too used to stand alone doctor offices, since none of the attached clinics are in my area.

I agree, the "making shit up to get rid of me," is less than professional and reflects poorly on the office as a whole. Because of this, if enough patients complain, she could very well lose her job. Or the DR office loses patients and doesn't get why.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

I only have one med that I have to get from a pharmacy outside, only because while the doctor will give me a script, the VA doesn't carry it. One of the many reasons that I love my neurologist is that he sends the fax from his computer during the appointment.

I luuuuuuuuuuuurve my pharmacy. This is why I'm currently very pissed off at my doctor's office which obviously has NOT called in my scripts yet.

Here's the issue: I was supposed to see the doc yesterday for my monthly visit, but due to the training class I was put into I was at work all day, so I called last week to cancel the appointment. I explained it was due to work, and I know that they can't just write me up a new script willy-nilly since they're controlled substances. I'm supposed to see the doctor first. Only, it's not my fault I have to work, and it's not his fault he's going out of the country for a few weeks. (OK, I am jealous, but hey...it's his right.)

After waiting a few days I finally get a voice mail yesterday from someone at the office asking for the phone number to the pharmacy. I call back and of course, I get voice mail. I give all the info asked of me, and ask that they please call me back and leave a message to let me know they got mine. As of about 3 PM today, still no scripts at the pharmacy and still no call from the doc's office...so I left ANOTHER message. Now it's 9:30 PM Thursday and still no message or indication that my scripts have been filled. Have I mentioned after tomorrow I will be out of them? Then we have a holiday weekend (again).

I am in customer service. I have also worked at a doctor's office, up front. I know it can be done better than this. I like my doctor, but I hate his office. I may have to have a chat with him about it next time I see him.

My insurance is dropping Walgreens as well at the end of the month.

There aren't many nice words to describe how I feel about having to stay up PAST my bedtime because I have to wait until 9 am (most likely LATER because Wal-Mart is a VERY busy pharmacy) because Walgreens was the ONLY 24 hour pharmacy around, and everywhere else doesn't open until at least 9.

And I don't even want to deal with K-Mart, Shitko, or anywhere else. I hardly have the patience to deal with Wal-Mart.

I don't have a choice at one doctor's office; they have a computerized system that sends the scripts over.
Same thing at the urgent care I usually use and my physical medicine doctor (same group). They ask which store, and they email it while I'm in the room with them.

I warned everyone on my FB wall a while back that if anyone put up a nasty comment, I would delete it. Sadly, I've had to do it a couple of times.
My mom actually said it was rude to do so. You know what? It's my wall. If someone spraypaints graffiti on it, I WILL remove it.

A couple of weeks ago, I made some comment about never having had a white Christmas (And I still haven't. Not that I'm complaining, I loathe snow.). I almost immediately got someone arguing with me that I had 5 years ago....because it had snowed on his side of town. Which is in the northeast heights, which is where the foothills to the Sandias start, 10 miles away. I'm on the valley floor, 1/3 mile from the river. We have completely different weather!

So it was rude when I deleted that whole thread? And here I thought it was rude that he kept arguing with me over the facts!

I've had to delete a couple of people for different reasons-one kept making stupid racist jokes, which I didn't want my friends at uni to hear and the other one was talking about animal cruelty and I did not want to hear about it. (Something involving shaving a kitten from memory)

And Panacea, thank you for reminding me, from memory, the rule is No Script=No Drugs-they give you a bit of paper with your prescription which has all the information on the original script plus how many repeats are authorized and how many have already been dispensed.

Uh yeah. You can tell your mom it's also rude to tell others what to do on their facebook wall and that you have the power to defriend her anytime you wish.

Let her tell you that's rude. I hate when people tell me what is and isn't rude, simply because they think it is.
                      Random conversation:

                      DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I rarely, if ever, post my personal opinions on my FB wall.

Of course, people rarely check out what I write there, anyways.

So according to her, it's okay to lie to the patient as long as that shuffles their anger from the office to the pharmacy. In that case, when the pharmacy tells the patient that their doctor flat-out lied to them (and the patient decides to find a less douchey doctor), then that's all good, too.

Yeah, when a doctor or their office staff are assholes, STOP GIVING THEM MONEY. I need to find a new physician because of this issue.

Here in the U.S., the insurance companies put limits on what can be prescribed and how often. Also, as my insurance company is doing, they have contracts with pharmacies to provide meds at agreed prices and if they can't get an agreement with a pharmacy, they drop the pharmacy.
Australia has the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme: a government thing that applies to every citizen and resident: and which applies to every pharmacy. So you go to whichever pharmacy you want.

All medicines are available at a specific price (or less, if you're below a certain income level). However, there are limits on what can be prescribed and how often, and by which type of doctor.

For example, my GP has to call in to a central office to get approval to prescribe my Tramadol (a controlled substance - it's an opiod). Particularly expensive meds require approval, as well.

It's not so much a check on the GP as a check on the patient - a way to catch the drug seekers who doctor hop and try to get two or more doctors to prescribe opiods or whatever for them.

Because of this 'cheap drugs' system, Customs keeps an eye on how much medication you take out of the country. Personal use is fine; enough to be dealing it isn't. :P

At the pharmacy, if you don't have a script (and for the restricted meds, don't have the approval #), you don't get the medication. If it's a script with repeats, the pharmacy prints off a 'repeats remaining' updated script to give you. They always keep the original script.
                              Seshat's self-help guide:
                              1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
                              2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                              3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                              4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Ah thank you for clearing up that first part, I couldn't remember how the controlled substance ones work. I've only had the doctor make calls to that office twice, neither of which were controlled substances (not sure about the first one though) and the meds themselves were not that expensive. (she had to make the second call to approve them to double the amount of medication dispensed to me, so instead of me receiving one pack of 60 tablets, I'd receive two packs instead, because of the amount I was taking at the time).

As for the second part, I've always had the chemists give me back the original script attached to the repeats remaining script.
