  • Why is it that those who complain loudest about children...

    ...always act the most childish?

A couple of weeks ago, my wife took my two daughters to the local library for reading time. It is a regular event where kids pick out books and put them in a pile, and the pile gets read to them.

Now, controlling that many kids can be a bit of a handful, but from the times I've been there, the kids who go are generally those who like reading, so tend to sit quietly.

On this occasion, a couple of young siblings were brought along, and they cried incessantly.

The mothers tried to calm them, but outside it was close to 40 degrees (for .usians, that's about a very hot Texan day), so taking little kids outside would probably have made the problem worse.

The chap referred to in the title went *ballistic*, screaming and carrying on that the crying children should be removed so that the quiet people (ie, everyone but him) could surf porn in peace.

Well, it turns out that a few days ago, he was finally banned from the library for deliberately spitting coke (no, not *spilling*, but taking a mouthful and spraying it) onto the carpet. Why did he feel this action was justified? Because the local $BIG_TELCO had an outage, and the free internet service was down.

Well, I hope he enjoys having to pay for internet like the rest of us.

Glad the guy got banned. It's not a way to act.

Except I'm in the mindset that if your kid keeps crying and/or making a scene, you should leave with your child and go home. My mom did that with me (which ended my tantrums verrry quickly) and I'll do the same when I have kids.

Wait, your library lets you look at porn? With CHILDREN around? (not saying that you specifically would)

I should probably suggest that to my local library though, sounds like fun.

I can see the parents' problem in this case. It's the younger siblings having the melt down, not the older. The parents don't want to punish the older ones by removing them from what is likely their reward for being good. I wonder if the library wouldn't be willing to allow the use of one of the enclosed rooms for this sort of issue during reading time? Or use the room for reading time, taking the kiddles out of the hair of others?

However, the room shouldn't be used for the adults who have meltdowns during reading time. Adults should be escorted off premises the moment they start melting down. How else will they learn manners if they aren't forced to go home during a temper tantrum?
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

from what i can gather some libraries have had legal issues trying to stop adults from surfing porn.

as for 40 degrees - in Celsius? meaning 104 Fahrenheit?

It's not surprising for it to even reach 40-45C in the summer, usually it hits around 45C in the rural areas. (as in VERY rural)

As for the first part, my local library does have a porn filter due to the fact that there are six libraries in my council district which are all hooked up, including this one. Out of those six, two are connected to high schools, at least one of them is connected to the TAFE building (community college or technical school) and mine is connected to a local shopping centre.

So I would imagine there would be a porn filter .

There are computers at our local library that have the screens set into the table top, and there's a screen over it so that you can't see what the person is looking at unless you actually go right up behind them and look over their shoulders. You could use these to look at private financial stuff like your bank account....but yeah, I'm pretty sure that a lot of people use them for, ahem, other stuff...

a foot off the deck it often hit 120.
