I've always had problems with cabbies but not very much. Lately, though...
Had a skinny, black guy around late 30s arrive around 3 am. He wasn't acting drunk or high or aggressive so I asked if I could help him.
Guy: Yeah could you call me a cab? I've been trying to wave one down and they wouldn't stop.
Me: Okay I'll call you one and it should be here soon.
Guy: K
He sits and I call him one. I do my work and soon a cab pulls up.
Guy: Is that mine?
Me: I think so.
Guy: K bye.
He leaves and I go to the back to do some paperwork. Soon I hear the door bell again. It's the guy, he's back.
Me: Something wrong?
Guy: *Politely, but with suppressed anger* He left me, he refused to take me. He took one look at me and refused. I guess the cabbies around here are really racists!
Me: *shocked* Really? Well, they've taken black people before. So I don't think that's it. Let me call them up. Maybe that one was crazy. *calls dispatcher* Yes I just made a booking for this guy. He says the cabbie took one look and drove off, leaving him.
Dispatcher: Well, the cabbie says that the guy came up swearing at him.
Me: Oh really?
Guy: What'd they say?
Me: The cabbie says you were swearing at him.
Guy: Ridiculous! I was speaking very politely.
Me: Yes I find it hard to believe that you would, since you were very nice with me. *to dispatcher* Could you send someone else?
Dispatcher: *agrees*
Me: Thanks!
So the guy waits and waits, and no one ever shows up. I kind of feel bad for him. I mean I don't know what happened. I wasn't there. However the guy was very nice and well spoken to me, not a thug. Maybe he hates cabbies and got an attitude with them. Maybe cabbies hate him. Who knows? Still, it's a rotten thing to do, call for them, and have them leave you there. Silly. :P And unbusinesslike. :P
