I will admit I get annoyed when customers ask me for a bag to put one item in, but I hold in the annoyance while the customer is present.
Believe me, I get far more irritated at customers who, when I ask "Would you like a bag?", reply, "No!" as tho I've just offered them a handful of amphetamines and instead prefer to stagger out of the petrol station juggling several grocery items. Nine times out of ten, these customers make my life even harder by dropping a bottle of milk or fizzy on the floor.
