This happened last Saturday, when I was off enjoying my first full weekend off in over a month.
Some contractors were installing a HVAC unit on the roof of the furniture and appliance store at the end of the strip mall. Somebody--I guess a co-worker or supervisor to these workers--pulled up in his truck and hollered up to the guys on the roof "Hot enough for you up there? It's nice and cool in the truck here, ha ha!"
Then for some reason he floored the gas pedal--and took out a fire hydrant.
No dramatic plume of water rising into the air, but I'm told the truck was quite heavily damaged. I'm also told the truck was recently totaled out due to damage from the hail storm we had a month ago, so the driver gets to pay for that out of his own pocket. In addition to never hearing the end of it from his co-workers, I'd imagine.
