  • Should've just kept his mouth shut

This happened last Saturday, when I was off enjoying my first full weekend off in over a month.

Some contractors were installing a HVAC unit on the roof of the furniture and appliance store at the end of the strip mall. Somebody--I guess a co-worker or supervisor to these workers--pulled up in his truck and hollered up to the guys on the roof "Hot enough for you up there? It's nice and cool in the truck here, ha ha!"

Then for some reason he floored the gas pedal--and took out a fire hydrant.

No dramatic plume of water rising into the air, but I'm told the truck was quite heavily damaged. I'm also told the truck was recently totaled out due to damage from the hail storm we had a month ago, so the driver gets to pay for that out of his own pocket. In addition to never hearing the end of it from his co-workers, I'd imagine.

Someone needs to get him some Neosporin after karma bit him in the ass that hard.

He's gonna need some reconstructive surgery after that one.

Yeah, dry hydrants ruin the fun when they get hit and you just want the idiot it be drenched.

Ah but if he got drenched he'd be cooled off. So in this case he doesn't get soaked, but he doesn't get the usual cooling effect on a hot day either.

I hope Karma was cleared for the overtime she put in on this guy. :P

wait... if the truck was already totaled out, was it even street-legal then?

cos if it's not then... a ticket for both that AND the destruction of the hydrant.

Totaled out just means the damage was more than the value of the car. With hail damage, you can still dive it safely once you replace the broken windows, lights, or other required parts. It will have tons of little dents, but that doesn't mean it's unsafe. You just need to buy it back from the insurance company. After that they will only sell you liability coverage unless you get the hail damage fixed. Even then it will have a salvage title because it had been totaled out already.
