I saw another crazy signaller while driving home from the church meetinghouse today. Ok, a few, at two different times, and all at the same intersection.

First was on the way home from our actual church services. I'm approaching this one intersection where the main road is intersected with a side street and (opposite the side street) the entrance to a large, multi-building parking lot. The main street is two lanes each way, with a single left-turn-lane for either direction. The left-turn-lane gets a protected left. The light was red, and I slowed to get in line behind the three cars in front of me. The middle car in front of me suddenly signalled and inched out into the left turn lane, just as the light turned green with a protected left for our direction. That car started to make their turn.

Meanwhile, the first of the three cars wasn't moving, and suddenly signalled and turned left behind the middle car. The third of the cars actually went straight. They couldn't figure out sooner that they needed to be in the left-turn-lane, or just drive on ahead a little and find a driveway or side street with which to turn around?

Then, later, I was heading home from an afternoon meeting at the church. I approached the same intersection, which again had a red light. There was one car in the lane ahead of me (the left of the two driving lanes), and about three or four cars in the right-hand lane. The light turned green with protected left again while I was still a decent way off, so I got a wonderful view of this. The car in my lane went straight through the intersection. Then, the lead car in the right-hand lane suddenly switched on its left blinker and made a full left-hand turn into the parking lots, from all the way on the right-hand side of the road.

Nevermind that the other day, I passed a car that was in the right-hand lane with its right-turn signal on, and just after I passed I watched it cross the left-hand driving lane and left-turn lane to make a left-hand turn, all with its right blinker on. Oi.

It appears that we have a lot of drivers who believe that turn signals are entirely optional......as well as people who are just plain indecisive.
My uncle has the best bumper stick about this! It says.....

"If you can't opperate the turn signals what makes you think you can opperate the REST of the car?"

And no it's not just there. It's bad in Michigan and Texas too.
