  • But...why?

Coming back from the hospital, I saw a lady walking along the side of the road, while there was a perfectly good, empty sidewalk right next to her. Everyone in the right lane was moving over a bit to avoid her. No big deal, but it puzzles me that she would forgo the sidewalk to walk in the gutter.

Around here, it's the joggers and runners who do that in the middle of the road. Even on the busy streets.

It's like a running advertisement, "Look at me, I'm RUNNING, I'm healthier than you, I'm running in the road, what are you gonna do about it? I'm healthy!"

You may be healthy, but I doubt you'd come out on top if it were you vs a car.

The do that in the neighborhood where my parents home is. The excuse they usually give for walking in the road? Having to step up and down when they come to a driveway. Never mind that that's extra exercise.

Of course, these are the same people who, while walking down the middle of the road one morning, almost walked into my mom's car. She had seen them, realized that not only were they not going to move out of the road, but that they hadn't seen her (too busy yakking to each other), so she had come to a complete stop.

How do you miss a large piece of metal/plastic powered by a not-silent combustion engine?
It's floating wicker propelled by fire!

Actually, jogging puts a horrible strain on a person's joints and internal organs. Asphalt has greater give than cement, and so it's better to run on it. That's why so many runners run in the street as opposed to the sidewalk.

Of course, if they're in the middle of the street blocking traffic, they're jerks.
