"But the light was green"

    "But the light was green"

    I overheard this incident on the bus while going to work this morning. A passenger who works for city's Parking Management dept. told the bus driver this incident, which he witnesssed.

    A female driver was at an intersection. The light was red. Either she was 1) thinking the light was green or 2) she was tired of waiting for the light to turn green because she decided to run the red light. She hits a car. Police arrive, & she tells them "but the light was green." So the police look at the camera at the light, & it shows 1) a picture of her face, 2) her license plate number, 3) her running the red light, & 4) her hitting the other car.

    Police show her the camera footage, but she still says "but the light was green."

        I hate to admit this, but that sometimes has happened to me. (The last time, I totaled my car and was definitely at fault.) Yes, there are rare occasions when it seems I have the hallucination that a light has turned green before it has. This hasn't happened in like 7 years, now. But it has happened.

        These days, I try to not be the first at a stop light, or wait until other cars going in my direction are moving -- or at least confirm that all other directions have stopped.

              A smart driver wouldn't have been in that accident, even if the light did change.

              A smart driver checks to make sure cross traffic has stopped before entering the intersection from a stop.
