  • This Took Talent....

I have no other explanation for this, other than this person had to be extremely drunk or high on something. This took some major freaking talent.

Leaving the gym yesterday afternoon, coming up over the overpass and back into town, I see a major car accident. Err, I mean van and pole accident.

This was not even 100 feet from where you'd turn right onto the highway...and I understand hitting a pole does some major damage, but I don't get how someone who just took a turn could get going so fast and then hit this damn pole....

The van was up and over the median, it's resting place was actually straddling the median and the front of (what was left of) the van was facing opposing traffic lanes. The airbags were deployed...the entire front end was smashed in like a V, and there was parts from the van and the pole all over each side of the road. The pole was completely detached from the concrete median and was in the road in shambles.

The police weren't there yet, so this must have just happened.

Last summer an idiot driver put his pickup truck through my local Dairy Queen. He'd made a left turn while running a red light and lost control. At the time he passed through the intersection, he was doing 135 in a 50 zone.
(For the metrically challenged, thats roughly 90mph in a 35mph zone)

Not only was he doing almost triple the speed limit, his blood/alcohol level was also almost triple the legal limit.

Thankfully the DQ had closed shortly before the accident and there weren't any customers seated in that section. Had this incident occurred 1 hour earlier, there would have been multiple fatalities for sure.

Shit like this happen all the time around here. Cars hitting poles and driving up them as well. One guy even drove his truck into a jewerly store that is located on the corner of one of THE most busiest intersections in town. dumbass tried to beat the light, when opposing traffic had already started moving. To avoid getting hit, guy swerved and drove across the intersection and into the store. His speed? 100mph in a 40mph zone. I do not know how he acheived that since there are several lights and lots of traffic through there.

The guy was probably in a hurry, and took the turn too fast. Some people simply can't handle their vehicles, and think that everything handles the same.

Oh, and it's not just poles either... I mean, I've had people attempt to turn onto *my* street nearly hit me head-on because of that. They'll come zooming around the corner, and take up both lanes

I was just informed by a coworker that a few weeks ago, someone really wanted Subway so badly that they bashed right into the restaurant, just next to the door!

I guess what you guys are saying makes sense. I know of people at work who don't want to wait to leave, so even if there is someone coming they will pull out and swerve as wide as possible to avoid being hit, and I can see if they were going too fast or if conditions weren't great, there'd be real issues.

When we had the massive snows (3 feet total ) back in February, getting home that first night was interesting. Even at 5mph, I found myself sliding around corners, and taking them wider than I really would have liked. Didn't have a choice in the matter, but at least nobody was coming the other way.

One of the worst accidents I ever saw was similar to this. It was a four-lane road at an intersection. It had rained and the roads were slick. A jacked-up Toyota pickup was in the left WB lane when it hit a light pole just past the intersection. The entire rear end of the truck swung around into the EB left lane where it was hit by an SUV. The SUV slammed the Toyota back into the EB lanes where another EB car hit it and pushed it back into the light pole, which at this point came down. It completely blocked both WB lanes, narrowly missing some cars who had to slam on their brakes and naturally ended up causing a few rear-enders before everybody got stopped. Several people, including a small child in the back seat of the SUV, ended up going to the hospital.

I never did hear how everyone turned out or who got charged though but that was a total mess.

Earlier this year my manager was awoken a little after midnight by a large boom. Someone had taken the turn near his house just a little too fast and crashed into his across-the-street neighbor's car.

                Which was in his garage.

Which was then pushed into the kitchen.

Apparently alcohol was not a factor.

I see that often when the first rains hit, people still want to go 70mph on city streets, and they end up taking out poles, or in the worst case, driving into someone's home.
