  • Going the speed limit = Unlawful passing

So I got off work early tonight since we're closed tomorrow (yay..). I was on my way home and some idiot decided that it was okay to pass me because I was doing the speed limit and because someone had slowed down ahead of me to turn.

The problem is that it's a no passing zone, i.e., double yellow lines and there are signs posted. Oh how I wished a cop was there. But I do think I got some justice (hoping at this point). One of the police departments is on my way home, so I stopped by before they closed and gave them the license plate and car info of the car that illegally passed me.

Part of me thinks nothing will come of it, but I'm hoping that someone does something since I reported it. In any case, the driver was an idiot, since the pavement has been wet due to the asphalt sweating.
    Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
    DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I'm glad the jerk didn't clip you while passing you like that.

Does anyone know if reporting a dangerous driver's license plate like this actually does any good?

I know that it can help soothe righteous indignation (I've done it myself), but will the police actually track down the vehicle? I've got some fuzzy recollection of someone telling me once that the cops have to catch the person in the act or they won't be able to cite the person for whatever moving violation they committed.
Sorry, my cow died so I don't need your bull

If they did, it would likely be tossed out in court. he says she says.

If they get a lot of reports about the same car from different people, then I think they'll generally keep an eye out. A single report probably wouldn't be acted on, though.

A single report is merely corroboration.

Many single reports, however, should lead to something more.

What they might do is send a warning to the driver, letting them know what the laws are

My boyfriend got pulled over one time, some guy reported his passing him on a highway (he says he didn't do anything wrong about it, but i wasn't there... something about the lines changing while he was passing the guy but he had a clear view of the road.)

He just got a warning because the cop didn't see him do it.

There's no harm in reporting it. The police can't issue a citation but it can still have an effect.

For example a lady in our neighborhood noticed a white Jeep flying down the road every day around the time kids were walking home from the bus stop.

One day she waved to the guy to slow down and he slowed down enough to flip her off then burned rubber taking off again.

So she called the police and gave the tag number to them along with her report of the jackass behavior.

The police called the owner of the Jeep. Who turned out to be the driver's mother. She was veeeerrrry interested to find out how her son was treating her property, acting toward her neighbors and endangering his life and others.

He got the keys taken away and was grounded for a month.

And yes, he seems to have learned his lesson so far.
The best karma is letting a jerk bash himself senseless on the wall of your polite indifference.

The stupid is strong with this one.
