Traffic islad is not for traffic

At one intersection in my area, it has several islands to divide traffic up. I am stopped waiting for my turn when I notice a very angry driver behind gesturing widely. I ignore them. A few seconds later i look out my drivers side window and I see them driving over the curb and on to said island looking to get ahead. The manage to and speed off down the road.

In classic moronic driver fashion, I drive like a sane person and and at the next major intersection end up about 10 cars in front of them.
