I think it depends on where you live.
Agreed. We may have covered it in the classroom portion of Driver's Ed, but there are absolutely no local roundabouts where I grew up for us to practice on. So it was basically, "If you ever encounter one of these, here's the gist of how they work."

There are maybe three I've encountered in our current area, and all are very small single-lane affairs to handle two cross streets rather than stop signs or traffic lights. They do actually have Yield signs at each entrance (and no signs for the exiting side), so they shouldn't be too confusing, and so far I haven't noticed any issues with them. They were actually put in after we moved to the area, and they have noticeably smoothed up traffic while slowing people down a little bit (they're both right next to a park with a huge playground area).

We didn't even get that. Hell, they didn't even teach us to parallel park!

Now that we had drilled into our heads. There's one street in that town that was perfect for it (one way, out-of-the-way so people didn't use it much, just right for a carful of students learning how to park), and we practiced a lot.

It's a waste of time in Las Cruces. The only places that have any parallel parking aren't even really in the city....on the Horseshoe on campus at NMSU and out in Mesilla.

I know traffic circles in Tijuana, Mexico are an adventure.

Too bad I don't remember it more clearly, as there's probably a wonderful story behind this.

Many, many moons ago, I flew into Gonzalez Intl Airport (Juarez) from Mexico City and got picked up by my parent. I wasn't driving, thank the Goddess. While there were traffic signals, nobody was paying them any mind. Actually saw one truck-load of guys directing traffic from the back of said truck.

And then there were the federales armed with what I swear looked like AK-47s, out on the Pan-American Freeway.

I'm beyond grateful for the drilling my driving instructor gave us. It didn't really come into play much in my hometown (plenty of room for parking lots in general, but the instructor knew we'd be tested on it to get our licenses), nor did it figure much in the city where I went to college. But the city we currently live in is practically nothing but parallel parking. Street parking everywhere, and probably outnumbers the parking lots downtown.
