I'll admit to using the entrance ramp as an exit ramp once. In my defense, many others were doing the same. I was coming back from Philly (having gone to a Ring of Honor show) and took the wrong fork in the highway (going on 495-South instead of 495-West to get home). There was a major accident of some kind on the highway, and so folks were getting off wherever they could to try to get around it.

I, like many others, went up an on ramp and detoured around Fedex Field until I got back to the highway and found my way home. The whole time I was doing it, though, I was thinking "Ohhhh, I'm gonna get busted." I didn't, but I don't relish the idea of doing it again in the future.

Yesterday I was impelled to use a word in front of my kids that I don't like them using. Couldn't help it, though.

I was heading east on NJ4 towards Teaneck, where there's always a bit of a backup where it goes from three lanes to two. It wasn't even that bad yesterday; I've been stuck there without moving, in which case I'll jump off at River Road and take the city streets the rest of the way. If it's going 20 or more, I won't bother. In any case, this dingbat in a Porsche Cayenne (or VW Toerag, whichever) comes up on the backup, decides 25 isn't fast enough for him, and puts his vehicle in reverse. I was pointing at him openmouthed as he headed backwards along the highway as fast as I was going forwards. To be honest, I don't know if he backed down the on-ramp as well, or backed up to the beginning of the off-ramp and went forward down it, but regardless, I had to say, "Look at that guy! That is so stupid!"

Son (4-1/2) says "Isn't 'stupid' a bad word?"

I said, "Yes it is, but sometimes you just have to say it like it is. I'm sorry, but that guy is just plain stupid! You don't drive backwards on the highway!"

When I finally get to the accident scene 15 minutes later, the moron had been stopped by the police. From the looks of it they were making him wait until they finished clearing the accident before they dealt with him.
Reminded me of one of the entries in this guy's blog:

Very much so! Though since my friends started balking at their ticket prices (and the three-hour-plus drive up), and since ROH stopped running shows in Manassas, we've fallen out of following it. (Well, they have. I follow what goes on still.) But I'll always make the trek for Chikara. Family fun entertainment and awesome wrestling, to boot!

Mark was once hit by a hit and "run" driver who was trying to merge onto a the same highway he was. The highway was backed up due to an accident.

She sideswiped him, pretended not to see his signalling her to pull over and merged a couple cars ahead of him onto the backed up highway.

Needless to say she wasn't going anywhere in a hurry due to the traffic. He called the police gave them a description and her plate number which was her first name (ended with an "i"). And the police dealing with the accident simply waited for her and nabbed her when she showed up.

Yeah. She wasn't going anywhere for a while. Dum Dum.

Once, I saw a real nasty back-up going the other direction (was a parking lot from Mt Vernon to Marysville). Cars were backing up the on-ramps! I think at least some of that was being directed by State Patrol, though.
My mom got directed to drive off of an onramp once because a power line came down across the freeway. That really messed things up.

As for the shoulder runners, I once spotted one zooming along the inside shoulder on the 91 freeway here in LA County who didn't think that 70mph was fast enough or something. The limit at the time was still 55mph.

I hope he tore his undercarriage to shit when he managed to kick a tractor/trailer tire tread out into the fast lane. I didn't see it happen, but I did watch it kick up out from under the van that was ahead of me and drop back to the pavement in time so that it went under me as well and didn't smack into the front of my car.

              ^-.-^
