  • Once again, I miss all the excitement

Last Friday Night (eat your heart out Katy Perry ), after I had left work for the day, somebody drove their car right into the strip mall attached to the swamp. Specifically, they crashed through a set of doors located at the "intersection" of the L.

This to me is rather impressive. For one thing, those doors are quite a distance away from the parking lot, but there is a wheelchair ramp from the parking lot onto the sidewalk at that corner. For another, there's a fire hydrant in that general area as well. So this person managed to zoom all the way up the ramp, up the sidewalk, into the glass doors, missing the fire hydrant.

And doing all this while attempting to light a cigarette while driving, no less.

As long as the excitement missed you, I'm pleased to note... That could have been far worse than simple property damage.

Raps is right, though I can tell you from experience how scary it is being on the other side of the wall/window when someone attempts to add a drive thru to your place of business! I hope no one was hurt!

And yet another reason why smoking is harmful to your finances and health. ^_^

But yeah, to echo sentiments, I hope everyone involved is all right!

The one that drove up the wheelchair ramp, onto the cement walkway, in order to pull asssss clooossseee to the doors as possible To let out their elderly spouse.

Judging from the news, either that's a common excuse around here, or we have a lot of 80-year-olds in this state who really need to retake the driving exam. I heard that explanation for why an old guy plowed through a farmer's market at full tilt.

Thing is, it's also not that far-fetched, all things considered.

This one made me think of the Blues Brothers Movie.

Remember back in the '80s, when the Audi 5000 acquired a reputation for unintended acceleration? People were complaining that the car took off, despite them mashing the brake pedal through the floor. There was big publicity about this (some of it faked), and it finally turned out to be driver error, possibly compounded by design: this model car apparently had the pedals offset just a little to the left as compared to other cars, and people were in fact mashing the accelerator rather than the brake. The tipoff was when someone saw one such runaway from behind and testified that the brake lights never lit...
