  • Best Entertainment Ever - and it was Free!

This happened when I was a child, but it was really hilarious.

We lived on a very straight residential street that fed directly into town. It had a lot of ups and downs so it was very hard to see if a child might have wandered onto the road, and holy crap did people speed down it. A fifty zone and people would regularly do 70/80. I lost a cat on that road... that was what convinced us to try to keep our cats indoors. But I digress.

Near where I lived was a golf course. there was also a lot of empty land and a dirt road the construction trucks when down. I'm not sure what the were building. But anyway, one fine summer day we saw a police officer pulling someone over. And then again. And again. We realized that he was hiding in the construction road, which wasn't being used at the moment, and nabbing the speeders. This was right across from our house! So we got out the lawn chairs, brought some lemonade and had a grand old time counting how many cars the police officer stopped. It was a LOT by the time he finally left. Good times!

Unfortunately it never happened again and people continued to speed down our road.

The street I grew up on was a straight line connecting two major streets. Many times people would drive down it just to avoid traffic. Being a residential street, the speed limit was 25, but people would drive 40, 50 or more.

Usually once a month a motorcycle cop was stationed at the corner near my house. Without fail, he/she would reach quota for the rest of the month!

But the speeders were not deterred until the city finally installed speed humps on the street.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

same reason i never let Viggo out back when I had him - the backside of my old apartment was a 55mph road. He's with sis now and lives in a quiet neighborhood but they also keep him inside cos he's use to that now.

As for the officer... that reminds me of a major road in the city my family lives in now - it's 4 lanes with a center turn lane. Except in one area where it goes over a bridge. The far-right lane (both sides) merges left until it's a 2-lane road over the bridge.

The problem is a lot of drivers speed right before the merge to make sure they're in the inside lane and they pass everyone else.

So one day the cops had some fun with the area and had at least 5 patrol cars there. I think they had one guy at the merge tagging speeders and cops at the other side of the bridge pulling them over. It was rather entertaining as we drove on by at the speed limit.
