Story of my friend and I

My friend, who I will call Amy, and I, were headed south on a highway when we get caught in traffic. No big deal, we just crawl through it at 10 miles per hour... le sigh. We weren't too sure of what caused the traffic and we never found out because - BAM. We get rear-ended so hard that the car we're in rams into the car in front of us!

I flip out and yell at my friend to call 911.

We then took up 2 lanes, forcing traffic to go around into the left lane causing the traffic to go slower - sorry, guys! But we were in the middle lane and the police took up the third lane.

Basically, no one was too hurt. Guy who rear-ended us, his insurance had expired! Car in front of us had to make a plane ride so the police took their statement as fast as possible and let them hurry off.

I still have back problems to this day.

Story of another friend, who I will call Nina

Nina was driving along some local roads, ho-hum, not too much excitement. She is waiting at a red light when she spots a woman talking on her cellphone while driving. Not too exciting. But then, the woman doesn't notice the light for her has changed to red and keeps on going several long seconds after the light has turned.
Another woman that is making a turn gets t-boned by the phone-woman.
The light then turned green for my friend so she had to leave the scene behind but she immediately called 911, saying she just witnessed a crash and wanted to leave the operator her name and contact, emphasizing that she saw the woman who ran the red light was on her phone chatting away and that my friend could be contacted just in case the phone woman tried to contest it wasn't her fault.

    She wasn't contacted but still.

Story of my First Aid teacher

I took first aid lessons in a small class of... 8 in total? I think? Can't remember. But my teacher was an emergency paramedic. He told us about how he responded to a call of a -um, postal service car? can't remember- on X road that had hit the curb in some way and had managed to flip onto its side.

Then a classmate speaks up about how he had saw it happen! He was driving to work and saw the car flip onto its side.

Teacher asks if he called 911.

No, because he was late for work and thought some one else would do it and the flip didn't look too bad so he didnt think the driver got too hurt.

Well, the teacher says, he should have called 911 but it's okay because someone else did and he arrived at the scene.

    However.

Something in the engine went wrong from the flip and caused a wee little explosion that made big flames. Firetrucks rushed over to put it out.

    Classmate is all

Don't worry, driver is fine though.

Story of my friend who I'll call, Tim

I have a friend, Tim, who likes to party and drink (underage, tsk tsk) and is generally sometimes a douchebag. but I love him, most of the time. He's not a bad person. Just a douchebag. It's okay, we're all somewhat jerks in some small way.
I still consider him a good friend, especially since we usually have more heartfelt, personal conversations rather than being all shallow and superfluous. He's one of the few people I can have a serious convo with.

He also likes to joke about things you shouldn't joke about, which is why I call him a douchebag. He also trolls a lot.

So one day, I call him to chat but he doesn't answer. I send him a text but I also don't get an immediate answer. That's fine. People are busy.

Then I get a response, several hours later at around midnight. The following conversation happens through text messages:

    Tim: What's up, you call?
    Me: Yeah, hours ago.
    Tim: Sorry, I was busy.
Me: mmk, I was just bored. What are you up to?
Tim: I'm at the emergency room.

    Immediately, I don't believe him.

    Me: Seriously? No way.

Tim: Yeah, I got into a car accident. My leg's broken.
    Me: Really?

I still don't believe him since he's the type of person to pull that kind of joke. Then he sends a picture. Of his leg in a cast inside an emergency room with bustling nurses.

    What happened:

Tim and three of his friends were cruising down a local street. They pass a traffic light (it was green! green is for go!) but a drunk driver passed their RED traffic light and t-boned them.

They were hit so hard that the car spun enough times to be facing the same direction that the drunk driver was facing. So when the police came to inspect the accident, they asked Tim if they were driving the same way as the drunk driver.

"No, officer," said Tim. "We were going a different direction. He just hit my car hard enough for it to spin."

Tim and his friends are okay, now. His leg isn't broken anymore. Unfortunately, his car was totaled beyond salvaging.

Do they? I'm not too familiar with their build--I'm not too familiar with vehicles in general.

I also remembered another one; my friend's mother works delivering mail and for some reason, a person was in a hurry to get some where and rams into her postal service car while she's still in it. The whole thing ends up rolling. She's fine and back to work now but at the time, there were a lot of problems. Well, she still has some back problems though...

got rear-ended leaving the post office in virginia beach once. i pulled forward to the stop sign a little and stopped to see my way clear because there's an obstructed view.

the car behind me didn't stop and tapped my bumper.

no damage really but my back was feeling a bit jarred. so if i felt a little from just that, i can see how others would feel worse from the bigger accidents.

oh and i got a lesson in military medical. the local base nurse bitched about me even daring to set foot in the hospital to be checked out. (it hurt enough i wanted some ibuprofen at least) the accident happened within a couple of miles of the base... but she felt i should have driven the 20 miles to go to my ship for help instead. still, they couldn't really refuse me i guess... they just bitched about it a lot.

Yes, because driving 20 miles is the best thing for a recently hurt back .

That's terrible. It's been about... 2? 3? years since the accident I described in the post and my back still hurts especially when I drive for more than 30 minutes. Ironically, this past winter my back hurt so bad that, when I laughed, I lost feeling in my legs and would collapse.
Then I got into another car accident that same day where a car hit the side of mine--and my back stopped hurting LOL
It still hurts but not as severe as it was that specific day.
