Caller: I need tech support.
Me: No problem. Let me get your license number and I'll send you on to Carl.
Caller: [makes huge production out of finding the license number]. It's #####. You know, I'm calling long distance and I don't appreciate you guys making me look that up every time.
Let's list what she HAS figured out:
-Calling long distance costs money.
-Looking up my license number takes time.
-The company I am calling always asks for my license number.
And she came to this conclusion:
-Taking time to look up my license number while on a long distance call costs me money.
So far, so good. But then her solution was:
-So I'm going to take time on a long distance call which costs me money to complain about having to take time to look up my license number while on a long distance call which costs me money.
The leap of logic to come to the right answer is so miniscule and yet they fear it so.
