I too am thinking "troll post is troll."

And if this isn't a troll--if they want the ponies so badly, it's time to stand up to daddy. You don't owe them a thing.

I looked at your page, I'm not a MLP fan in the slightest bit, but even I won't deny your work is totally adorable! Wonderful work!

But seriously, I hate it when people do stupid crap like that, even if it's true, (which there is no way of knowing) at that point you just look like you want attention. Sigh... If you want to purchase art, be prepared to pay the price for it. If it's cases like this, that's what commissions are for, deal with it.

I also showed this to one of my artist friends. She can relate as she tells me she's had a handful of those people. And of course, their problems are all her fault.

(We really need a better word for 'online whiner' than troll. Any suggestions?)

Awwww, thanks for all the compliment on my dolls! I'm pretty happy with them, considering they started out as nothing more than a way for me to function during a mental/emotional breakdown. They're nothing like what a real, professional crafter can do, but I'm ok with that.

And yes, I'm still planning on not responding to that person. If I ever respond to a message like that, troll or not, it's just gonna open the door to more craziness. I have read all of Spark's stories, and learned a LOT.

I've seen a lot of pony plushies in the last couple of con-going years, but yours are so different and delightful! I love the choice of fabrics you used.

I think that's why I find them so charming. There's always something special with handmade things. Sure, I could go out and buy a really nice plush that'll last a long time (maybe) but it just doesn't have the charm of something that someone put their own time, effort, and even a little money into. I find that really special when I see something like that. Simply because no one can replicate in truly the same way.

I really wish more people could think that way, and we wouldn't have the crap that a lot of artists get for their works.

If I were to respond to this person, it's be with support links. That way the whiny bit is ignored, but you still manage to help this person if their abuse is real (and not just a ploy for sympathy/freebies). But you have context that I don't. so maybe that's not wise at all.

I don't get the whining for free/discounted stuff. There's better ways to handle the problem of wanting something but not being able to get it, surely. Like...trading? Or..dealing with it without whinging like you're 5?

It's important to remember logic on their case, even lack-of, for a better way of saying it. "You're suffering abuse? I'm not 9-1-1 dude. Yeah, I feel bad, but I'm not 9-1-1."

I'm not a plush person or a pony/bronie guy, and I don't know anything about plushes. I will say that I saw the pic though, and that's far better than what I would see at a department store.

You create crafts, ergo you are a real crafter.
People pay you for them. Ergo, you are professional.

Sure, there may be a skill gap between you and Spark, or you and some other crafters.

Certainly you and Spark have different artistic styles.

But you are a real crafter, and never ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Not even yourself.
And if you're being paid labour costs - however small - you're professional.

                    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

Damn, I wish I could favorite this post. I agree entirely, as I've said on Twitter before. You are most certainly a real professional crafter. Show-accurate and "on model" are nto required to be a "real, professional crafter."

Shoot. I keep forgetting to dig out that fabric and get pics for you... I'll try to remember tonight.
