  • Do not anger the mama bear

One of the cashiers had a serious medical issue yesterday, but was cleared to work today. She was feeling awful and possibly wanted to go home tonight. She had a woman around 35 in her line when the supervisor walked up to talk to her about going home. I guess he couldn't pull her off the lane because it was busy or something. The sucktomer muttered something under her breath sarcastically about "some customer service."

OK, it was a somewhat valid complaint up until then. I mean, from her point of view, why didn't the supervisor pull the cashier aside? But that passive-agressive remark was uncalled for. She should've asked for a manager instead of being snarky. Now, this is what ticked Mama Bear Food Lady off: as cashier was going up to break, the sucktomer caught her and asked her name, which she gave. She went after the sucktomer to apologize and explain it was something that couldn't wait, and the woman said snottily "I don't care!"

So it ended up with me consoling cashier in the breakroom, as she was in tears on top of feeling lousy. Geez, the next time the woman is having some kind of medical problem, I hope someone doesn't say that to her, 'cause that's really rude. She should've finished the "I don't care" with "about anyone but myself." If she talked to a manager, she didn't need to badger the cashier any further. And it was the supervisor who had walked up to talk to the cashier during the transaction.

He could've done that differently, but it wasn't the cashier's fault. I had to go tell him what happened in the hallway and he was livid. He said, "You don't go after the team (meaning badgering them)." He feels he's the one who should take it, not us, as it's his job to deal with complaints. This woman was over 30 and acting like a schoolyard bully. It took me quite a while to come down from my tirade. I am very, very protective of my younger coworkers, and this ticked me royally. While I was talking to the supervisor, he had to shush me a bit because I was getting loud and animated.

The customer was a nasty little piece of work. What's the big deal if the manager has to talk to the cashier for a minute? I hope that jerk doesn't come back.

And supervisor was maaaad. When I told him he was all, "Where is she? If you see her you tell me!"--meaning the SC. I had to tell him I didn't see her, just heard about it from coworker. He immediately went uo to talk to coworker. He's Poppa Bear.

I've been that person they tried to push out, so thank you for being there for your coworker.

I hope she gets what's coming to her. I don't know why it is that when some people go to a store they leave their manners and everything they know about treating people how they want to be treated at home.
