  • How dare you run out

Backstory: I make pizza at a high end grocery store. Our toppings are all made fresh daily, with the exception of the pepperoni (it's the same pepperoni that the deli sells, we slice it daily). Our sausage is what's left over from our breakfast bar. Also, nothing in the store has preservatives - BELIEVE ME, you don't want to get sausage made 3 weeks ago that's been sitting on our makeline the whole time.

As a result, we sometimes run out of toppings toward the end of the night. The one we almost always run out of is sausage - most other stuff, we wind up having some leftovers. If I actually do have sausage leftover at the end of the night, I throw it away - again, no preservatives and it's cooked fresh every morning anyway.

This one particular family called in an order a few weeks ago and asked for ground beef. We don't have ANY beef topping whatsoever for our pizza and I told them this. Which resulted in me being cussed out and being told they just got it there last week (no they didn't, we've never had any beef topping for our pizza whatsoever, and prior to this I had never seen them - I close 4 nights a week too). And believe me, our sausage is VERY spicy, they would have known if they'd gotten that instead - if not while eating it, then they would have noticed the next day when it came out

Since then, every friggin time this family comes in, they go up to customer service and complain that I refused to serve them. I've never refused service to anybody at this store. And every time, it's because they came in just before close, and I had *gasp* run out of sausage.

HAI WAIT MAYBE IF WE COME IN EARLIER THEY WON'T RUN OUT OF SOMETHING? NO WAI THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY!

That would make sense, and as such, it's not allowed.

And I'm sure "everywhere else" had something to do with the bounty of last week as well...

I would try and link the post, but I can't seem to find it (customers complaining that a stores policy isn't the same as everywhere else-read credit card policies/returns/checks/etc).
