I was in hospital in a shared ward last night. It was in the middle bed, with one middle-aged woman to my right [closest to the door], and an elderly woman in the bed to my left. This was in outpatient care, meaning we had all come in with out various ailments, and has been placed in our beds while we waited to be seen.
The woman to my right was quiet and didnt say anything, I'm not sure what her reason for being there was. The woman to my left, well, she was in hospital because she had tripped on her way to the bathroom in the middle of the night at home and she now had a BRUISED FOOT! And she required IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!!! I know this because she was YELLING it to the world, and would not shut the fuck up.
SC - The old duck
HL - Hospital lady [the general nurse who attended to us while we waited for the actual Dr to see us
SC - 'Hello? HELLO?! NURSE! I need some attention over here! I've been waiting for HOURS! [NOTE - no, she got there after I did. She had been waiting about 15 MINUTES] I'm INJURED and I need IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!'
*The nurse walks in, no doubt on account on her insane yelling*
HL - 'Hi ma'am. Okay, I can see here it says that you had a bit of a fall at home tonight and have got some bruising on the side of one of your feet, is that right?'
SC, still talking far too loudly - 'Yes! That's right! I had just gotten up out of bed and I took myself out to the kitchen for a small glass of water, and on the way back to bed I realized that I needed to take a piss! So I walked on down the hallway to the bathroom, I went in and did my business, and when I got back into my bedroom I tripped over and hit my foot on the base of the bed! Is the Dr going to see me now?!'
HL - 'Well ma'am as you can see it's a fairly busy night here tonight, so the Dr will be in to have a look at your foot as soon as he's available. He's got a few people who have come in with some quite bad injuries, there were two people brought in following a motor vehicle accident, so I do apologize but it might be some time. Would you like some water and reading material in the meantime?'
SC - 'I'm DYYYYYYYING here! I need to see the Dr NOOOOOOW!'
HL - 'Again I apologize, our Drs need to attend to those with serious or life threatening injuries first, I assure you though that you will be seen as soon as a Dr becomes available. I can from the notes here that a triage nurse has said it appears that your foot mostly suffered some light surface bruising, but that there doesnt appear to be any evidence of a tear or break. Of course, the Dr will verify that for you, but I can see that the nurse applied some ice which appears to have helped, would you like me to bring in some more ice for your foot to relieve some of the discomfort at all?'
SC - 'No! I don't want any more ice! I need to see the Dr! I've injured myself and I need immediate medical attention! My foot might need to be amputated! You just dont want to help because you're a fresh out the boat slant-eyes!'
Me -
HL - 'Ma'am, please refrain from using racial slurs. I'll leave you be for now, and the Dr will be in to have a look at your foot as soon as he is available'
SC - 'No! I demand to see the Dr NOW! Go get me someone who knows what they're doing, someone whose white! You slant-eyes have no idea how to treat people, all you do is come out here on those boats and steal our jobs! Go get me a real nurse!'
HL - 'Ma'am, again, please refrain from using racial slurs, and please keep your voice down'
SC - 'No! No! I won't be told what to do by some slant-eye! I' might lose my foot! Get me a real Dr!'
HL - 'The Dr will be in to see once he is available'
And with that, the nurse walked out.
The old duck spent the next 10-odd minutes sitting there yelling about how she was clearly dying, how the 'boat-people' were all coming over and stealing our jobs and our way of life. she was that loud that I could still .ear her yelling when I was being taken down the hallway.
