  • REALLY..... You want to return THAT?!

This happened a while back, but just remembered it!!
Everyone and I mean everyone knows you simply do NOT return underwear, well so I thought before this sc....
Me- the best sales assistant ever
    Sc- well just see

Sc: "I'd like a refund please"
Me:" okay (speil about receipts blah blah)
Sc:"this underwear please: shows me the underwear... Not ONlY have they clearly been washed there is some stain on them that I don't even want to think about
Me: " I'm sorry but we can't do refunds on underwear"
Sc: " we'll you HAVE too.... There's a manufacting fault"
Me: "unfortunately we can't refund underwear for personal higien reasons" and you've CLEARLY worn them!!
Sc: " well no one told me you couldn't return them"
Me: "it says it on the bottom of your receipt" (points to the bottom) it's not exactly small it takes up most of the receipt!!!!
Sc: "well I didn't see that.... I want my money back I don't expect to open a box and have a fault with my underwear!!!
Me: now I'm getting annoyed they haven't JUST been opened they've been worn!! "I'm really sorry but I can't give you a refund as they have been worn"
By this point I thought I could see steam coming out of his ears
Sc:" this is ridiculous, get me a manager"
Me: "of course but there isn't much She'll be able to do"
Cut a long story Short. My sm told him no he can't have a refund and to leave the store after he swore and threatened her....
Am I the only one who knows underwear can't be returned?!

I think most places won't take underwear back, but Kohl's will.

As a Kohl's employee(who runs the return dept) i can assure you that we do NOT put underwear back on the floor. it gets sent to the compactor.

Same with swimsuits, as far as I know, and for exactly the same reason. What a twit.

Strangely, there's no law against returning underwear. But many stores don't allow it for that reason unless it has a defect.

For example I had a swimsuit that started falling apart after 1 or 2 wears. Mom returned it. The salesman tried to deny the return for the "used" reason but it was clearly with issues if it fell apart that quickly.

But if it had been stained... well then Mom wouldn't have even tried that. That's just nasty.

Well in England most stores clearly state underwear can't be returned and it won't affect our 'staturory rights' probably because stores don't want to lose money on them.... We can't really re-sell them, well I suppose we could but..... Grossssssssss

At work we won't take returns on toilet seats once they're opened for sanitary reasons. But if they're defective we have to which is gross. I double and triple bag that shit and clean the hell outta my counter after that. The people who just want to return/exchange an opened one don't seem to understand, will even say, oh but it's a brand new never used toilet. But we don't know that.

Down here the rules are a little bit different.

Many stores allow "change of mind" returns to a point (ie if you're "wardrobing*" obviously you're less likely to be allowed to return something) and usually in those cases its for store credit or for an exchange within that department.

Statutory rights are pretty straightforward: all stores MUST allow returns for faulty items, items that aren't fit for their purpose or don't match the sample/description. For sale items, if the faults are made clear prior to purchase, they can't return the product for one of those 3 reasons.

Checking ye local Kmart's website reveals that they won't accept change of mind returns for underwear, socks, stockings/hosiery, swimwear, printer cartridges and bedding products. I'm presuming they also won't accept them for CDs, DVDs and what have you.

That said, I do also believe that in most department stores, if you're trying on underwear or swimwear, you NEED to wear your own underwear underneath.

Unpopular opinion but I've always thought that underwear should be recycled somehow (possibly shredded first). On the other hand I know nothing about recycling fabrics. Maybe it can't be done well. I just hate wasting anything.

Maybe I'm partially writing this post because I bought a pair of underwear that was too small (guess i wasn't paying attention) and now it sits in the back of my closet. Unloved, un-returnable and unsure what to do with it other than to make the landfill bigger.

Incidentally, I noticed the last time I walked by a second hand store here in town, that they had underwear. I haven't asked them about that... but I did shudder involuntarily.

I will say I have returned underwear, BUT BUT BUT, it was clearly UNWORN, with tags still on it. that's happened when I see something I like, and buy multiples of it, wear ONE and realize they don't fit or aren't comfy. that pair goes in the trash, and the rest goes back to the store. I'd never return any that had been worn, ewwww. that's just nasty.

If they've never been worn and it's clear they haven't, then some stores will exchange them
For you suppose it depends on the store.... We will exchange if they're clearly not opened etc.

Underwear and swimsuit returns were a huge no no where I worked. If it had the tags on it, and had clearly had not been worn, then yes.

I knew a girl who worked at Victoria's Secret and she swore that they did put returned underwear back on the sales floor. I hope she was lying...

We get a few people trying to return drain snakes, plungers, etc., despite the large bright green stickers on all those items stating that they can't be returned for any reason. Why would we take something back that's got who-knows-what kind of ick on it? Luckily, management backs us up when we deny the return.
