  • Card machine not working

Every now and again our card machines stop working 9/10
It's the network... But for some reason customers think its our fault....
I either get a rant about how there is money in the account.... That's all well
And good but it isn't going to make the machine work as I have just explained that the till has told me its a network error...
The best one I had was today... "I know the bloke who invented these ill have a word with him" brilliant you do that but I'm pretty sure he won't know anything about our Internet connections....
Not so much sucky customers just plain annoying!!

We have the exact opposite problem: we just got some new hardware, and it is very touchy ... if you don't insert the card in just exactly the right way, it tells you "Chip error" and then it all goes downhill from there. People are usually pretty good about it; they understandably protest, "But I just used my card five minutes ago and it worked fine!" Yep, I believe you. Just gimme a minute while I glare at the machinery and then re-try to insert your card again in just exactly the right way ...

We have problems at our store too because we got new card readers this past September but they have a problem sometimes interfacing with our register computers, which are just way too old. This made me think of the opposite problem, in which the card is actually declined and the little decline message pops up out where the receipt would be, but the customer of course insists there's money there and wants to run the card four or five more times. Sometimes you just can't win!
Sometimes customers remind me of zombies, but I'm pretty sure that zombies are smarter.
