Heh I had someone pull the "Do you know who I am?!" thing once. I didn't, and didn't care either. Turns out he was a former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. I still didn't care. LOL
I hope he's careful not to say that to a Cowboys fan!!

I swear, today's law students come from a generation of spoiled brats who just want to interpret law to the point of where they can TRY to sue someone, and know how to do it, so they can get a big settlement and never have to work, while in the meantime starting it all over again with someone else and calling THAT a living.

13:04 HRS: Citizen declaration: "And WHO do you work for?!" Agent points to door of truck. Citizen declaration" "You know who I work for? WHERE I work?!" Agent response: "I don't care".

13:05 HRS: Citizen informs agent he is a law student. Agent inquires again about overdue payment. Citizen informs agent they will pay with credit card but fully intend to dispute transaction. Agent considers telling Citizen that said bill is now cash-only payment, but defers, processes credit card.
Which doesn't actually answer where Citizen works for. Cos "Law student" is not a profession. Not unless he's a very bad student and never plans to graduate.

"Oh law student. So you MIGHT eventually be a lawyer then?"
cos face it, graduating doesn't make them lawyers - they still have to pass the bar.

13:13 HRS: Agent checks license plate database, today's action constitutes third instance of towing of said vehicle, neither of 2 prior tows have been repealed by subsequent legal action. Agent LOL's.
He's got a lot to learn - after all, disputing a valid charge constitutes fraud. Considering he's a repeat offender, if he does dispute the charge (and credit card company backs him up), any chance of putting him on a "hot sheet" so that on offense #4 the drop fee/impound fee (depending on whether he gets to the car before Agent takes it to the yard) gets the fraudulently-charged-back amount "tacked on" to it (cash only, of course)?

And he's probably like the Genuine Dirt Road Scholar - only passes the bar when he's not thirsty.

My guess is the whole "I'm a Law Student" thing is more a variation of "I know the law", "This is illegal", or "I'm a Lawyer". If they actually claim to be an attorney, they would be expected to have business cards, maybe a half decent vehicle, etc. This way they avoid those problems, while still asserting that you will be in trouble if you don't cater to their wishes.

Then again, he could be a law student. I've actually seen a ADA object to the Defense asking leading questions to a witness that was called by said ADA. Said (now former) ADA is still practicing law.

And if the claim to be a lawyer and they're not ... that too can carry serious punishments.

I've seen one instance of someone parked badly where who they were actually mattered worth a fuck.

I was waiting tables at the Waterfront Bar, and suddenly noticed a car parked right in the entrance by the stage. (This is an open air bar, so said entrance was really just space between the stage and some tables that led to the street.)

I turned to my coworker and said, "Do you see that? Do they know they can't park there?

Coworker laughed and said, "Do you know whose car that is?"

Me: "No. Why? Whose is it?"

Coworker: "That's [Waterfront Bar Owner]'s car."

Me: "Oh, now HE can park there!"

Of course, too many defendants make quick settlements over frivolous lawsuits. If the lawyers know they can be sued for filing a frivolous lawsuits, many of these suits would go away.

He who represents himself in court has a fool for a lawyer and a jackass for a client.

I forget if it was here or somewhere else, but someone pointed out that it was illegal to use the line, "I'm a lawyer" to bully someone into giving in to the speaker of the line. If that really is true, kid's got a lot to learn.
It's not illegal to say it to be a bully. It's illegal to actually practice law with no license.
