However, in Canada, if the sales guy made that claim, and the customer could prove it, the provider would be legally required to honor it. The can fire the sales guy, but still have to uphold the deal with the customer.
I went though almost this exact situation with Rogers several years ago. Sales guy promised me a too good to be true deal to upgrade and renew my contract. I got it in writing. Rogers billing tried to deny it. After a surprisingly short discussion with Rogers Canada legal department, they agreed to honor the contract rather than face fines many, many times larger than the discounts I got.
