I wonder if the guy wasn't a little bit OCD. The wood HAS to be in a certain place and HAS to be in a certain order.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

Is this guy's name Adrian Monk, by chance?

I'll be if it had been a female crew, they could have touched his wood all they wanted
Only if there was an 11 foot tall Romanian giant on the crew - they wouldn't touch that junk with a 10 foot Pole. Cookies for reference.

Nope - never heard of that one until you mentioned it. Besides, according to the wiki, the giant in question is only 8 feet tall.

                "Only".

It's the only thing I can think of with a Romanian giant in it, though. So... what is it?

"Only" because the giant in the movie was 3 feet shorter than the one I'd mentioned.

Source is the book "The case of the toxic spell dump" by Harry Turtledove. It's set in modern-day California, but with magic instead of technology.

The only time I asked people to be careful, was when I had a new water heater installed some months back. I cleared a path in from the garage, but I couldn't move the car. Ignition problems meant that the bloody thing wouldn't move! Even with the car sitting where it was, there was more than enough room to get the cart/water heater inside, and the old one out.
Could you not have put it into neutral, and pushed, with someone inside the car to apply the brakes appropriately? Or were you by yourself?

Nobody has had to go back yet. I do know he has many many problems with every trade he has hired to date including:
having a concrete company, electrician and two architects quit partway through the project, despite this meaning they won't get paid anything
firing two different roofing companies who started before getting a third one to finish

If he calls for us to come back the boss will get in writing either a guarantee of a clean work space, or send a revised quote which will charge him for the extra hours it will take to complete our work. If he never calls back I guess we will just be out a days worth of work, plus some material (the guys took all our tools and uninstalled material when they walked), because we really can't charge for doing such a small portion of the job, and then walking off.
Pain and suffering are inevitable...misery is optional.

When the water heater came, I couldn't find anyone to help with the car. My dad was at work, and so were most of the neighbors. Otherwise, I would have put the car into neutral and pushed
