I'm so grateful for the kids in my grade that I grew up with. Most of the kids that went to my primary school went to the same high school too, so we nearly all stayed in the same grade together for the full twelve years.
In primary school, especially the last couple years, everyone was friends with everyone. There were hardly any cliques and for the most part the whole grade played with each other, talked to each other, helped each other, and got on with each other.
We were told, several times, by the deputy principal at our high school that we were by far the best behaved grade they had - and that they had had in several years.
It really upsets me seeing the attitude of kids and teens that I see around the shops lately. Leaving trash all over the stores, stuffing up the merchandise, and of course yelling to/at each other all over the store... *sigh*

Eggs, meat, and cheese are manly.
Therefore, making an egg, meat, and cheese pie must be very manly.

It is if a white person says it. Just ask that radio talk show guy who just got fired for it. And then tomorrow Chris Rock will do another one of his comedy shows and drop n-bombs (as he is known to do sometimes in his comedy shows) and no one will utter a peep.

the comment he made was "nappy headed hoes". hoes i can see the insult, but nappy refers to a type of hair really, full or curls and kinks and stuff, which is a style that is common to a few races, not just black people.
also, noone but a few people care, mostly the sports team he insulted (who lost, hardcore, which is why he insulted them) and a few celebrities known for bandwagon-jumping like al sharpton.
a radio show here (oipie and anthony i think it's called.) has been doing polls among black celebrities (mostly comedians) as well as having regular joe's call in, and all of them think it's just a witchhunt and will make life harder for all in radio/tv brodcasting. because as soon as they start blocking one word, then another will be and so on and so forth.

This thread's keeping civil, folks, but can we shift it back to customers who see nothing wrong with swearing, please? It's drifted a touch from the original.

I agree, Raps, since I have already asked TWICE for the thread to stay on topic, and even the OP has requested that this thread not stray into territory anymore.

I agree. I never meant for this to become a debate of certain terms and slangs. I even erased a reply that I made on this earlier being I never meant to be in that discussion. I was simply talking about how rude many of today's teenagers are out in public, and this was the incident that was fresh in my mind. Nothing more. We need to keep this topic about courtesy and politeness.

I think that the kids feel all grown up when they talk like that out in public. I know that when i was a teenager (16-18) I used to curse like a sailor when I was out without my family, unless, there parents let them talk like that at home. I know it made me feel important to talk like that.

No, I don't curse unless really angry. I don't really curse while out in public anymore. I find it a lack of education and self respect to talk like that. I figure that they don't have much of an imagination. I can come up with some good ones in place of the f work.

Unlike my husband that will curse like a sailor in front of his kids. He knows I don't like it, but continues.

The McDonald's where my Mom lives is infamous for having droves of high school kids (both boys and girls) come in and just take up residence: cussing, screaming, harassing average joe customers. It has gotten so bad that my Mom won't take my neices there anymore. The problem is that the managers are spineless, the only way I see it getting any better is coorperate getting involved, because the constant flow of customer complaints hasn't seemed to make a dent.

But yeah, kids just aren't respectful anymore. Sad, really.
These laments have been going on for generations. Literally for thousands of years. Our parents think we are rude and hate our music. THEIR parents thought they were rude and hated THEIR music. And on and on.

Remember, at one time the Charleston was considered scandalous. And as has been pointed out, Aristotle did not think the youths of his time would amount to much. It is human nature, folks.

Are there are lot of rude kids today? Of course. And this makes this generation different from previous ones how?

Amusing notes on this within my family: My parents were in their late twenties when the Beatles came along. My mother did not care for them at the time at all. NOW she loves them. Go figure! On the other side, while of course I love the music I grew up with, I also love the music that prececed it, and enjoy much of the current music as well. My teenage niece was a bit shocked to know that not only do I love Evanescense (and am probably butchering that spelling), but also own an Avril Lavigne CD. Not bad for a 36 year old clueless uncle, huh?

Anyway, back to the topic: remember, you yourself once were the rude punks of the world. (By "you" I mean a generic you--I am sure not all of you were as rude as the people in the OP. So save your angry replies to this, please.) And one day these punks will themselves grow up and lament the fall of Western civilization due to the rude and thoughtless behavior of the generation after them. And so on and so on.

Welcome to the human Merry-Go-Round, kids!

I completely agree. Young people are always considered rude and disrespectful. I don't think its necessarily gotten any worse from generation to generation. Most teenagers grow out of it and become respectable and polite members of society.

                              The rest become SCs.
