    Same here

There are exceptions to every rule and, speaking from experience, not all of us adults who still live at home do so b/c we're lazy.

I'm singlehandedly trying to take care of a younger sibling with developmental issues and now my Mom, who became physically disabled a few years ago. I've worked alongside my mom since I was 19 and just out of high school (no money for me to go to college, which at times still bugs me) and we've always worked together to take care of everything (and my brother.)

Not fair to paint everyone with the same brush.
Move back with my parents to save money, stayed to take care of a brother who was put into a coma from a drunk driver. By the time he passed away (14 years later) my father had died and I stayed to take care of my mom. Now she has passed away and I inherited the house.

Will you send this kid to collections soon? Let someone else make all those phone calls!

Why do I keep reading the title of this thread in Bill Paxton's voice...?

I hope you didn't think i was speaking about situations like yours! no, no, no! anybody can have obligations or a turn of bad luck that mandates a return to the homestead, as it were. and, with the economy circling the rim, it's becoming more and more common for children to share living expenses with their parents.

the ones that show no drive, work ethics, or responsibility are the ones i was commenting on, and that in recent years, there seems to have been an upswing in the number of grown children who meet that description. clearly, you are not in that group.

I apologize if I offended. I need to be more specific when I make remarks like that.

Living at home is not what makes this...kid a grown child. His mother is.

Kid rents a video game, keeps it, and doesn't pay the late fees? Mom will give him the money to buy it.

Kid still doesn't come in to pay for the game? Mom lies for him. He isn't made to earn the money for the game himself.

Just like the kids I got stuck with on truck this last Christmas. Anytime the one didn't feel like coming in to work, he'd just call in sick and mommy evidently was okay with that. Or mommy made the call herself, and made excuses for him.

The one seasonal kid we kept isn't much better.

And all over a wrestling game? Okay each to their own, but wrestling games aren't very well known for being quality products.

eltf said "this one" and your rejoinder was "many of..." which are both pretty good at not being all inclusive. I think it's probably just a natural desire to distance oneself from jerks like in vstore's OP that's brought on the living-with-the-'rents posts.
