I actually had a cat that liked shredded lettuce. We thought it was because most of what we had used to be on tacos, but when we shredded some fresh stuff, he ate that up, too.
That's funny. One of my cats also loves tacos. Just about any kind of people food, actually, and if I'm not careful, he'll steal stuff right off my plate.

I had part of a taco on there once, and he took it. I figured he'd just eat the meat like most cats would, but he also ate the cheese, the lettuce, and even the shell!

Just for shits and giggles, I'll have to try giving him some lettuce sometime and see if he'll eat it.

We used to have a boxer bulldog that loved watermelon. One year we had a great abundance and we had watermelon when ever we want and just eat the heart and pitch the rest over the fence for the cattle. The dog didn't like this he would knaw it down to the rine and then carry the rine out into the pasture for the cattle. Sometimes we would cut a melon just for him. In years to come we found volunteer melon vines all over the farm. I miss that bulldog he was a great friend.

My kitty LOVES cheese. And cookie crumbs. She does not mind strawberrys either. She has also been know to eat yogurt, rice, pasta, and french fries. She likes starch obviously.
Apparently cats in the wild (whatever that means) will eat catnip regularly to help with digestion. We give Sacha some to eat when she has an upset stomch and it does actually help her.

My parrots are incredibly spoiled. Mimi is nuts over mashed potatoes and they both love pastas.

Mimi once got a swalow of my Rum and coke (that my roomate gave to me. I never had it before). You think a parrot couldnt' look disgusted!

Then she tried it again when he refilled.

I am trying to get her to eat pellets, healthier than seeds, but its not going so well, and I really dont want her to get sick, so I give in and give her seeds in the end.

Tiggs, the cat that lives with my mom, will eat just about anything. He loves popcorn, snap pea crisps, ice cream, and Twinkies. I once gave him a piece of a ham sandwich, and he ate the bread first! He's such a little sneak, too. And he won't drink water from a dish. He will only drink from a running tap. So he makes us turn the bathroom sink faucet on, which is a pain in the butt because you have to stand there and wait until he's done so you can turn it off.

Oh, and cow's milk is worse for cats than it is for people.
That doesn't stop them from trying to drink it. I have to kick my cat off the table all the time when we're eating cereal.

Our cat loves pizza crusts. Whenever we order pizza from the place down the street, he's right there. At first we thought he was after the meat toppings (he also loves Canadian bacon), but my mom tossed him a bit of crust as a joke and he scarfed it. He likes to play with them first.

When he was a bit younger, my mom returned to the kitchen after taking a break from cooking to see him up on the counter with his face in a bowl of sauteed mushrooms.

My mom and dad's dog loves breakfast. Mom is a nurse, so she gets up in the morning at 4am and she'll cook some scrambled eggs for herself and the dog (she's a big mutt, part chow and who knows what else. She's a sweetie though). She also loves mom's pancakes.

Sadly, she's not getting around much anymore. She's 14 and arthritic, so she falls down half the time when she tries to stand up. The vet has my parents giving her children's chewable Tylenol. She won't eat the grape, only orange flavored. And they have to wrap it in cheese, she won't eat it plain. It helps, though. She can hardly take 2 steps without collapsing if she doesn't have it.

I was in 5th grade when we got her, I remember how tiny she was and how she chewed up one of the dining table legs in the first week we had her. Every time I go back home now, she's greyer around her muzzle and a little slower. I know she's not going to last much longer, but I'm going to cry like a baby when she passes on. Or gets put down. I really hope nature takes its course before that point. We kept one of her puppies she had before getting her fixed (what could I do? He was born right into the palm of my hand and I fell in love), and, long story short, he bit the guy from the electric company because he didn't tell us he was there first so we could go back with him (and, for the record, he hit the dog with his clipboard, which is why he got his stupid hand bit in the first place). They have this little doggy gas chamber (makes you sick to your stomach to see it), and I hope the mom doesn't have to be put in there too.

Have they tried Rimadyl with her yet? My 95 lb black lab/german shepard mutt, was as bad as yours when she was about 15. They put her on the Rimadyl and in a week she back up on the couch, and going down the deck stairs when she went out. She wasn't back to puppy like, but it did help ALOT with the arthritis in her hips and knees. She lived 4 more years before she got bladder cancer and we had to let her go.

My dog'll eat anything except lettuce and tomato. He LOVES carrots. Whenever I'm chopping carrots, I'll give him the ends and he just loves crunching them up.

My cat's a terrible thief; she not only pinches any meat products left lying around, but she's also been known to steal cheese and even once or twice she's stolen a broccoli floret off someone's plate. (oh, I really miss my kitty, theft and all ) Her absolute favourite thing tho, is margerine. Leave an opened tub out, and she'll stick her paws right in it and yum it all down.

As for vegan cats/dogs; there used to be this woman who came round our house for some reason back when I was at school. She had a vegetarian dog, and she once got really sniffy with me and my middle brother just cuz we dared feed the poor veggy dog some of our own dog's meaty treats. XD Its little face just lit up, honest. But its owner looked like she was sucking lemons.

Heh, you and me both. Actually, these days I get stuffed crust and garlic butter dipping sauce. Mmmm....

Oh, hey, I found a smiley for you, Jester!

Most cats that have been raised on a varied diet love dairy (especially cheese and cream) and baked goods of all sorts (cake, bread, etc).

My cat is the total opposite - she won't eat ANYTHING but Iams Indoor dry food.

                            [snippage]

                            And somehow she's still fat.....
I can tell you why on both of those. First off, a cat chooses what to eat by what it smells like. If they're fed a single type of food during and after weaning, they will associate only that scent with food.

You can train them off of this by mixing different foods together and basically making them eat what you give them as opposed to what they want. However, you have to make sure that they actually eat. A cat that doesn't eat for an extended period (2-3 days) can die.

As for why she's fat, it's because of the vegetable matter in the food. And because she's not getting enough water. Dry food isn't actually healthy for cats, although many cats can live on it without much incident. In a natural environment cats drink very little and get most of their moisture from the meat they eat.

Is the dish ceramic or plastic? Cats (and often dogs, too) prefer to drink water that hasn't been standing or is at least cool. It's just more refreshing that way. One way I've seen to keep it fresh for your cats is a fountain-style drinking tray. They make all sorts of different kinds. One even comes with a tray in it for cat grass.

                                One more thing...

You should tell them the story about the time you walked into the convenience store with a coon-skin purse. No wait, I'll tell it!

Skandrannon walked into a store to get sunkist, and had a coon-skin purse. The cashier was, oddly, eating fried chicken, and says, "Fur is murder".

Skandrannon turned around and said, "So is your lunch."

What a coincidence to have that happen to you twice!
