Now 778 has arrived. I knew my area code when it was useless knowledge (funny how a lot of things I know are useless).

My fountain of useless knowledge once paid off. When I worked for a book club, for reasons unknown, we did business in Canada.

So, fairly early early one morning, I got a call about a delivery in BC...

Me: Let's see... it's 11am where I am, which would make it 8am where you are... do you get mail that early?
Caller: You actually know where where British Columbia is?
Me: Well... yeah. Doesn't everybody?
Caller: Do you know any other Canadian provinces?

And, so, the geography wonk reeled off the provinces from east to west. And then, to be particularly impressive, the territories from west to east.

Caller: You're the first American I've ever liked.

The guy wrote an actual letter to my bosses praising me. When a person called to say something nice, it a Big Event. When a person wrote a real letter, it was a Bigger Event. When a person from Canada wrote an actual letter, it was... Promotion Time!

Sadly, I think it went over the heads of management at work. As did The Decider. The Zelda reference I used a while back worked though, amusing enough.
