my contract with Bog Red US Wireless Company is coming to an end on the 31st and I am sad. Mostly because the thought of job hunting is bringing up all the pain and humiliation of being 16 months unemployed again; and also because I genuinely like my coworkers and managers and the customers are better than at Aid of Rite.
Anyway, background: I know next to nothing how fraud prevention works, but I do know that if you are suspicious, my coworkers will place a flag and hold on your account that lasts for 72 hours. Suspicious behavior may include: coming into my store and demanding 4 lines, don't care what plan, don't have numbers to port over from other carriers, don't want us to check credit or sign up for the SHARP program that requires it and don't really want us to activate the phone either. People do this so they can take the phones and send them overseas to sell for thousands of dollars in markup (as many did during the iFruit 6 phone launch) or sell them locally for drug money or whatever else. If you mark an account as fraud, you obviously don't tell the customer it's fraud as they may beat you up or cut you.
Now, three 18 year old wannabe rapstars come into the store, baseball hats on backwards, baggy tracksuits, enough gold chains to make Flava Flav jealous, the works. They went straight to one of my coworkers and demanded 3 lines, not porting from another carrier since "bro we never had phones before yo" and they want the most expensive versions of iFruit 6 we have. One of them starts vaping in the store, blowing the smoke all over. Coworker Not Khaleesi looks at them and immediately flags their account as fraud. She then tells them that "yep it'll be approved in 3 days, sorry that we can't help you tonight, Worst Purchase may have the phone in stock". They leave.
In between them going to Worst Purchase and coming back to our store, they called Customer Service, who promptly told them "oh yeah they flagged your account as fraud, guys, sorry."
They come back, smelling like weed. They demand a manager. Start shrieking that "yo that blond bitch flagged us for fraud, yo, she totally needs to be fucked up!" One pounds his fists on the counter near where Not Khaleesi is and she stares at them with her resting bitch face. Manager comes by and makes soothing talk at them. They leave. Manager then calls Customer Service and rips them a glorious new asshole for endangering his employee. Customer Service gives manager the verbal middle finger and hang up.
