Yesterday in the New Job, we had a party of 40 that my coworker--The Mustache--and I split. Each couple was doing their own separate check, but since we knew that going in, it was pretty smooth. As per our manager, we added a 20% gratuity on to each check. (The group had been advised of this prior to arriving.)
So apparently one of the group that The Mustache was waiting on had to wait a little longer for his meal than other people. And I guess he wasn't happy. Because he INSISTED that The Mustache remove the gratuity, which on his check was $5.22. The Mustache told my manager this, but when she, the manager, said "Oh, no!" thinking something was drastically wrong, The Sage and Wise Mustache said "Don't worry about it...just watch." So she removed the gratuity, and the customer paid The Mustache.
For the tip, he wrote in $5.00.
Yes, boys and girls, this wiley and wary customer stood up for himself, refusing to allow the 20% gratuity to go unchecked....and saved himself a whopping 22 cents.
The Mustache was not too stressed out about his lost revenue!
