"It's tradition in my culture to kiss your boss before departing for a break, as well as when reporting back from a break. {Asked in an accusing tone of voice} Do you have a problem with my culture and traditions?? {elevating vocal volume}Do YOU have a problem with MY people?!?! {As loud as I can speak without yelling} What are you?? Some kind of racist?!?!?!!"

That'd put 'em on the spot and shut 'em up real quick!

I think a lot of it has to do with the environment.

I'm in an office, and as quirky as my office is (all levels have had full-blown profanity-laden rants at some time or other, and all sorts of exceedingly inappropriate jokes get told pretty much constantly), nobody really gets affectionate, except the married ones. And nobody blinks at that, anyway. I love my office environment, most of the time.

When I was at one of my old factory jobs. I gave a peck on the cheek to 2 women. Hell we were friends, all seeing other people. Friends outside of work also, so it was Valentines day and I gave them both a hug and a little kiss on the cheek. No one got offended about it. I did got told not to do it again. But the boss was cool about it.
